A plea to John Hickenlooper from an ardent supporter

  • by: Half Glass Full

(Is it time to think about the unthinkable?  Could a proven liar — former U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo, who solemnly pledged to retire from Congress after three terms and then ran for five terms — slip through the cracks because 527 attack ads are savaging John Hickenlooper while Tancredo gets a free pass.  And least one respected Polster is worried about the possibility. – promoted by Voyageur)

John: I love you, man. You’ve been a terrific, moderate, pragmatic mayor of Denver. You have all the skills needed to be the best solution to get the State of Colorado through the tough, lean years ahead. Will it be easy for you? Nope: you’ll get the Full Obama Treatment from those on the Radical Right who have no shame and no responsibility, and who are not interested in good governance. But you will do a good, responsible job.

So that being said:

WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING?

I know you don’t want to run any negative ads, and you don’t have to. But your friends who have 527s should run a few against that idiotic, hypocritical disaster Tom Tancredo. Your friends seem to be assuming that everyone in Colorado is aware of Tom’s evils, misdeeds and hypocrisy – but they aren’t. There need to be some negative ads out there against him.

But you’re not doing those ads. Instead, you need to get a lot less cutesy in your ads and just show your earnest face with the fair-to-middling haircut on the airwaves, saying something straight to the camera like:

“This isn’t going to be one of those ads we’ve all been assaulted with lately – with the ominous music and professional actors. I just want to speak to all Coloradans – Independents, Republicans and Democratics – for a minute.

The next Governor of Colorado will not have an easy time. It will be a hard road to get us back out of the recession we’ve been in these past years. But if you elect me your governor, I will not showboat and try to earn cheap headlines. Instead I will work cooperatively with our lawmakers from BOTH parties to balance the budget, avoid any new taxes and fees, cut any services we can’t afford, and run a tight ship.

I will not try to turn the serious issue of illegal immigration into a cheap sideshow. I will instead work cooperatively with the federal government and with out legislature to tackle this issue head on in a serious, responsible way.

I have a proven record of creating jobs in the private sector and of protecting jobs and making hard decisions in the public sector. I have been a successful private businessman – a geologist and a small business owner. I have not spent most of my life working in government or for political think tanks.

I hope all of you, Democrats, Republicans and Independents, will take a good, hard look at my record and give me the honor of your vote for Governor. If you elect me, I will work for all of you. Thank you.”

John, that’s all we need: some serious, grown-up face time with you!

Please do it NOW. You probably don’t need to, to be honest. But I’m getting so sick and tired of hearing that insufferable Dan Caplis, his lapdog Craig Silverman, and the blatantly partisan Clear Channel Radio just harping on and on about that lying hypocrite Tom Tancredo.

Thank you.

Is it time to take the gloves off and go negative on Tancredo?

  1. Tancredo and Sens. Brophy and Mitchell think voters are stupid and want to take away their right to vote for tax increases.

Honestly, if I hear how Hick raised taxes one more time I’m going to start yelling at the idiot.  Oh, right, already have.

When someone asked Brophy why he doesn’t understand the most basic parts of Colorado’s Constitution, he replied:

Hick had city council put what, nine, tax increase questions on the ballot the vigorously campaigned for their passage, ergo, he raised taxes. Clear enough?

Tancredo says the same thing when Hick calls him on it during debates.  But they won’t stop saying it.  How do they think TABoRless states handle tax increases?

More importantly, why are a bunch of conservatives weighing in on taxes in a jurisdiction they don’t live in?  Local control sucks?

But seriously, as loose as the ad rules are, this could be an ad.  “Tancredo, he want’s to steal your vote.”

  2. I’m with you, Glass.  Today’s Magellan poll showing a virtual tie has me jumpy.  I’ve been tolerant of the Hickenlooper’s cutesy campaign – from the zebra jacket at the convention to last night’s stuttering GOTV phone call.  All the while, Tancredo has gotten a pass on the average voter hearing why he’d be a disaster – or even what he’d do right.

Someone correctly pointed out that refuting lies isn’t the same as going negative.  And, showing Colorado what you’d do with the state can be positive.

I’m assuming Hickenlooper has enough money to provide that “grown up face time.”  I’d like to see it now, before it’s too late.  Enough clowning around.

  3. I think Maes campaign has been such a disaster the Hick people did not know what to do so they did nothing.  Getting serious now is a little late in the game because it looks like Tancrdeo has already caught him in the polls.  Better to get serious late that not to get serious at all.

  4. so don’t arm those Colorado Air National Guard planes for their bombing run to Mecca just yet.  But the Magellan poll does suggest to me, for the first time, that the Rs may actually drop below the critical ten percent line.  Magellan has Maes at 8 pct.

What a disaster this race has been for the Republican party.

      1. They won’t win either chamber, and certainly not the Senate.  They also won’t win the governorship.  If anybody does want to open up a few attack ads on Tommy the Liar, they will knock him down 10 points in a few days.

        Here’s my script.

Clip of Tancredo making his solemn term limit pledge.\

Clip of Tancredo “Just watch me” line from his current ads.

Clip of Tancredo announcing his candidacy for a forth term.\

Final shot to him pledging to run for no more than three.

Narrator:  Actually, we already did watch him.  We watched him lie.  And we should believe him now because………

            1. Ultimately, Tancredo has some pretty rock solid principles – if he wins, it’s because he stays consistent, never changing – right now, people dig that

Anyways – again, it’s not out of Party vendetta, but I just don’t see Tancredo making this Constitutional ‘exception’ for the Republicans, while having to handle reporter questions of “Governor, would you have done the same for the Democrats?”

Either way – the GOP is screwed if they ‘minor’ – even if the laws are changed, Indie voters won’t dig that, heading into the future

              1. Or do you see a mass jumping off the GOP ship?

                Neither?

                Curious from a conservative who won’t give a response about a non-existent poll or a random video… 😛  Thanks.

                  1. The GOP Precinct Captain system in Colorado (particularly because of the Caucus format) is VERY entrenched in Colorado

                    No way that’s abandoned

The biggest hit, imo? The contributions – local and State candidates with potentially HALF the contributions? That will be a tough one to swallow

I will say – if Tancredo wins, I do expect him to keep the ACP identity – and if he goes on to win a second term, that’s 8 years of minority for the GOP – that’s rough

                    1. Anyway, thanks to you and big V.

Very interesting.  Hopefully this whole conversation was in vain!

                    2. … and hope to God voters don’t see through the cynical, transparent gimmick. Wasn’t crap like that what led to the Tea Party in the first place? Have you learned nothing from your little escapades of the last year, young beej?

                    3. Never heard that one before. And I’ve also never heard of a political candidate murdering their brother.

                    4. I understand you’re used to lower intelligence levels in the Democrat Party, but seriously?

                    5. who never admits a mistake because he is convinced that the sun rises from and sets in his ass.

                      yawn

          1. I not only bet on the Titanic over the Iceberg, I gave 4 1/2 points!

But, no, there will certainly be no three-way Republican sweep.   And if there is, we’ll all have to move to Canada anyway before Tancredo’s Brown Shirts can arrest us…

      2. I could see them changing the law for future elections – I think they should – but isn’t it an unconstitutional robbing people of the effect of their vote if they change the rules after the game?

Plus, won’t the American Constitution Party scream bloody murder? Right now, if Maes gets under 10%, it’s just the ACP and the Democrats “above the line.”

Maybe I’ll do exactly like Tancredo and join the ACP, and then sue to keep the law the way it is now, just so I can screw the Republican Party.

    1. I’ll still give you the chance to pay off your debt now, for $105 , so I won’t laugh quite as hard at you on election night.

On the other hand, if you really think your proven liar can win {and not even you can deny that he did lie about the term limit pledge) then I’ll give you this one last chance:

Want to double the bet to $200?

I get Hick.  You get Tommy the Liar.

        Deal?

        1. I’ll give you a mailing address to send it to me at the Mile High Law Office.  You can do the same, so neither of us has to “out” the other.  The checks can be made out to “cash” unless you prefer just b.j.Wilson, since I don’t want to”out” you either.

            So it’s a deal: $150?

I get Hick, you get Tommy the Liar.

I think we can both agree that Maes is now out of the picture.  But if Maes does win, we pool our money, get $300 worth of win, and have one hell of a “What the **** happened? party.!

            1. from all the info you volunteered here on Pols.

I think you’re wussing out, beej. I can hear your internal dialogue already… “Oh Voyageur, I’m afraid to meet someone whose face I figuratively spat in, and all my bluff and bluster won’t push my second choice Tommy the Tank over the top, and I just NEVER can admit that I’m wrong, so now I’m going to come up with a bunch of impossible conditions to keep from having to pay you back…”

            2. You apologize for calling me a pansy and a lily livered coward — which you switched to after you finally realized you would be banned if you kept using the anti-gay slurs.   Then, and only then, do I apologize for telling you to go fuck yourself and not to use a condom.

Your sig line makes you look like an idiot, so whether you change it is completely up to you.

I don’t like to put insults in sig lines because they appear on every post, past or present, even if not relevant to the post.  That’s why your’s makes you look so dumb.

You sig line is your problem.

              I could have put your

Pansy, Pansy, Pansy, Pansy, Pansy -bjwilson83

in my sig line.  But then I would be repeating your slurs and I could have looked like the idiot.  I prefer to let you look like the idiot and bigot you are.

               So, my proposal:

Leave the bet where it is: $100.  I was just yanking your chain about your absolute belief that Tancredo would win.  If you win, you can either send me an address at th Mile High Law Office or I will send it to you in care of a certain department at Mystery State University that it took me almost 60seconds to find on the Internet.  If I win, you send it to the address I’ll give you at the Mile High Law Office.  If you don’t want your address on the check, use a money order.

If you want an apology, man up to the anti-gay slurs and the insults to my military service.  Then, I’ll take back my suggestion that you go pleasure yourself.

Whether you go on looking like a fool in your sig line is your business.  As several polsters have noted, it automatically refudiates everything you say.

                1. We double the bet to $200 bucks.  You get no apologies for your vile behavior.  You haven’t “bested” anyone since you “proved” neanderthal man was a hoax.

How about it?  $200 straight up, I get Hick, you get Tancredo and Maes.

No fair looking at today’s poll showing Hick up by ten, just put your money where your mouth is, shill boy!

        2. I’m shocked.  Based upon your previous posts about being frightened about being assaulted I would assume you’re the kind of guy who carries pepper-spray with him when he goes to the bathroom.

      1. I’m such a victim. I’m just a little government subsidised knownothing twerp that thinks my anonymous sniping has raised me to fame. I’m so scared. Please don’t meet me in a dark alley with your liberal goons. Can I have body guards with me when you pay off? oooooooooo. I’m so scared.

        Puke.

  5. I sounded the alarm about Clear Channel more than a year ago.

I said that Maes was a decoy to deflect attention from Tancredo. I said that boyles was going to elect Tancredo….

I hate like hell to be right.

I said that refuting lies is not the same as negative ads.

Tell me HGF, have you called down to Denver or State Democratic HDQs and asked WTF?

JOin me in throwing out the current Democratic State and Local party leadership.  We will have plenty of time on our hands after the election, because we sure as hell are not going to be invited to any victory parties.

      1. We invented the circular firing squad.

I still remember former Sen. Tim Wirth asking me:

“What do you do if [president] Jimmy Carter throws a pin at you.”

          “What?”

“Run like hell.  He’s got a grenade in his mouth!”

      2. I don’t take the SOMA.  I think it is absolutely wrong to tell dems that everything is okay.  It is not. It has not been okay for over a year and a half.

I believe that the dems have a moral responsibility to fight back to protect the principles for which the party stands. I deplore the cowardly response to attacks on fundamental principles…

I believe that the attack from the well funded right…and Tancredo, the talk radio candidate, has the potential to destroy this country from within…..

And I should be silent?  The advantage of saying “I told you so,” is to illustrate that what is happening has been apparent for months and is part of an overall strategy.

          1. I am old enough to know what Storm troopers were.  Someone who proudly claims that his supporters, the teapartiers are storm troopers has just been endorsed by the Post for Regent of the University of Colorado.  In the short run, bullies always win. I want to publicly apologize to any WWII veteran still alive and to the great WWII veterans who were my CU professors – Rozak and Pfaff – who taught about Nazi Germany and made us responsible unto many generations that it would be “never again.” I am glad that  my father did not live to see this.  Allowing storm trooper to become a good thing, is an desecration to memory and effort of honorable men and women.

Pogroms were horrible slaughters of real people and dominated the history of European Jews.  Let us not let this word slip into common usage.

I am calling for ousters of elected party officials.  I think it is time to suggest a way out of this mess.  I suggest this as an alternative to “not voting” or “voting for a third party.”  You certainly may disagree.  But you are right to say we should resume the discussion after the election.

        1. We don’t cop out after the election. I said somewhere about a year and a half ago on some thread or another: Now is when the work begins. Keep up the pressure.

It’s the day-to-day. It’s the real self-written letter with a stamp on the envelope and e-mails (online petitions, not so much, but still valuable); the sit-ins; lunch-ins; marches; just showing up to add numbers; talking to your neighbors and friends. “It’s a hard slog.” (Thank you, Mr. MacNamara [or however your satanist name is spelled.])

Hell,no. Don’t be silent, dwyer. Now or after the election. “a moral responsibility”: Couldn’t agree more.

    1. I’ll ignore the insult – I’ve been around, Dwyer, and done my fair share to support Democrats and especially to oppose that racist, demagogic, hypocritical, lying sack of shit Tom Tancredo – but that is a good idea to call the Denver or State HDQ and ask what the hell they’re doing.

  6. “During the 1920s, Colorado had the largest and most influential Knights of the Ku Klux Klan following of any other state west of the Mississippi River. In the 1924 elections, the Klan gained control not only of state government with the election of Governor Morley, but also of many local governments.”  http://ccpl.lib.co.us/History_

“Amendment 2 classifies homosexuals not to further a proper legislative end but to make them unequal to everyone else. This Colorado cannot do. A State cannot so deem a class of persons a stranger to its laws. Amendment 2 violates the Equal Protection Clause…” Justice Kennedy of the U.S. Supreme Court writing for the majority in the Romer v. Evans case of (1996). http://www.religioustolerance….

    From Wikipedia:

“Ethos refers to the spirit which motivates the ideas and customs. As T.S. Eliot wrote, ‘The general ethos of the people they have to govern determines the behavior of politicians.'”

    1. Some reports right now say we’re the angriest state in the nation.

Not sure why, exactly. I think New Jersey has a lot more to be angry about.

      1. …look at the mountains with the first serious snow of the year on them last night and enjoy. Right, left, wrong or indifferent enjoy our Home!

  7. I cannot fathom how Tancredo is sitting so high in the poll numbers, even if this is they year of the anti-incumbency and anti-establishment (which he fails in both categories).

Are the people of Colorado really that stupid that instead of picking the individual to steer the ship through the storm they want the guy who will steer it toward the rocks while pouring gasoline on the deck?

Not to mention he’s a draft-dodging coward with the fortitude of a mealworm (but that’s just my viewpoint on chicken-hawks which has no real bearing on this campaign)….

    1. But I certainly agree with you.

On the other hand, as a Vietnam era veteran, I am just as glad that Tancredo did stay out of the military.  I think he would have been much more likely to sign up with the Viet Cong than with our side.

I gotta hand it to Maes for nailing him on the draft-dodging.

    2. Check out Colorado Springs, Grand Junction, Delta and Montrose, just for starters.

You’ll find that yes, there are people in Colorado who are that stupid.

        1. shot themselves in the foot?

Now they’re all unhappy and blaming Ritter… for voter approved bs.  Tancredo’s holding them as an example of good government, this is his whole state plan.

Yeah.  How much would you bet that they go Tancredo by 60% at least?

    3. saying no one’s paying enough attention to know Tanc’s an idiot, but they are paying enough attention to not vote the party line.  I’m still not sure I think any major party is going to come up with less than 10% to just mindlessly vote.

It’s like how in name recognition polls it’s nearly statistically impossible to get less than 5%.  And you have to consider that some people are going to dig in their heels and refuse to not go with the party they belong to.

I’m just running off of gut here, but I think if Tanc had done a more legitimate run he may have won.  Next time he should work on not being a coward.  Big girl panties… put them on.  (I crack myself up)

        1. You’re asking Hickenlooper to release the 527s.  As Hickenlooper is prohibited from coordinating with the 527s, it doesn’t really seem to be under his control.

Alternatively, he could counter Tancredo directly with his own campaign funds — but that’s a different argument.

You can’t have it both ways.

          1. And I’m sure we’re both sorry for the implication of our rash words.

Hickenlooper should stop his public plea to keep the campaign positive, but just not put out his own negative ads.  These groups get the message on their own.  It’s not rocket science.  It’s just respect for his public wishes.

          2. I said “Unleash the 527s”

            no mention of Hick.

And since Pat Strykker reads every post I make;-)

So, I’m only having it one way.

But, I’m not adverse to Hick going after tommy the liar directly.   See the script I offered above.

He lied about the term limit pledge.  Maybe that’s not the most heinous offense.  But he lied, it’s indisiputable, and he’s caught on tape making that pledge and on tape breaking it.

            send in the hounds.

  8. I have a feeling that a healthy percentage or R’s are going to vote R down the ticket and haven’t paid attention to the Maes vs Tancredo battle.

    1. It’s the Dems that have to be wakened from their Sleeping Beauty state. The TeaPublicans are up and manning the attack. They know Tanc represents their knownothing racist position.

  9. What a refreshing change of pace. Voters are hungry for that level of honesty.  No histrionics, no heavy accusations about the competition, no drama. (And no production expense worth thinking about.)

It would set him apart, and define him as THE best choice to lead Colorado.

    1. When I lose my job once Tancredo is elected, and when one or more of the Ugly Three pass – I just have a great fear that at least one will – maybe I can start a new career as a political consultant.

Heck, I could surely do better than Dick Wadhams.

I mean seriously – he will be presiding over the biggest Republican debacle in the history of debacles.

Dan Maes is going to get about half or less of the percentage votes as a Republican than ALVIN GREENE will get as a Democrat! Think about that.

I wonder if there has EVER been a major race anywhere in the country when one major political candidate will get such a low percentage… Even if Maes gets over 10%.

      1. is the major thought that comes to mind.  the repub running against Lieberman and Lamont didn’t break 10%.  Of course, no one voting for a repub in CT isn’t so amazing.  😛

Also, the Dem candidate in Maine’s ’98 Gov election got hammered Maes-style…but he at least cracked 10%.

  10. One silver lining for Hickenlooper supporters is that anyone who was not motivated to vote will probably change their mind if they see this poll.  This may help Bennett too.

  11. The latest radio ad from Tancredo today, absolutely SAVAGING Dan Maes – it’s totally ugly in how harshly it attacks the man. Tancredo has the utter gall and nerve to say that Maes “built his career on a lie” when in fact the ONLY person to INDISPUTABLY do so is Tancredo himself: who ran on a term limits pledge, who ridiculed his opponents in a crowded Republican primary who refused to take the pledge, who repeated the pledge over and over again – and then broke it.

It’s bad enough he’s a liar, but now he’s destroying a man’s reputation in the most hypocritical manner possible. It’s about the most mean-spirited, ugly ad I’ve ever heard. It reminds me of why I find Tancredo so utterly repellent.

    1. Tanc is attacking Maes like he’s Hickenlooper.

There was plenty of Hick on Tanc action, but there was a shocking amount just between the “conservatives.”

That’s really Tanc’s problem and always has been though; he’s bitter and can’t do anything but argue.  Like a cat my mother has, six pounds of pure furry fury, but to what end?  She’s a cat.  Meow, growl, spit, bottle of water, shut the door, dealt with.

    2. That was clear when I interviewed him. And it’s clear in his continuing to pound him as Maes drops below 10%. I will say this though, the ACP definitely got what it hoped for – above the line and the Republican party probably dropping below the line.

          1. for “stealing” his nomination.  I think he honestly believes, even after all the revelations about his past, that he would be ahead in the polls if Tanc hadn’t jumped in.  I’m sure the way that Tancredo entered the race, being handed the ACP nomination rather than having to campaign for it, rankles him more than a little as well.

Tancredo’s attacks on Maes is nothing more than trying to get the Maes voters over to him.  It’s a political move rather than a personal one.

  12. Hick is a successful icon of the hospitality industry and Maes is a peddler of snake oil (or whatever he can get away with).

The voters by and large are looking to throw bombs this election.  You Hick supporters can’t expect him to change (he is what he is). It’s up to you to take on the bomb thrower and convince the majority of voters that Tanc’s way will only destroy any chance Colorado has of creating jobs and a stable economy.
