      1. Given the main actor I am inclined to agree w/you.

Maybe that was just Act 1 of 13 in the 2020 Election drama the WH has scripted out. Everything they do now and every bit of news that comes out of that alternate reality is going to be seen through that lens.

    1. The Russians didn't pay … law enforcement is anti-shoplifting, too.

More seriously (and likely):  purchased info comes with contracted limits on how it can be used, and some tracking on who has access to it.  Hacked files don't, and actually are sort of an indication of a broader access which could be even more nefarious than even "possessing" the information.

  1. My childhood home is Grand Lake burned down last night.  East Troublesome grew by 100,000 square acres yesterday.  Historic structures in and around the town burned and loss of wildlife can't be counted.  The adverse affects of Climate Change are with us now and will be for the rest of our lives.  Terrible losses in a short amount of time.

    1. Losing tangible parts of our good memories is rough.

      Sorry for that loss.

It’s no more possible to rebuild a childhood home than it is to reconstruct the memories attached to it.

    2. Sorry about your old home, GG. Let’s hope the cooler weather and possible snowfall will quench these blazes.

On a side note, I’m dismayed by how many otherwise reasonable people are buying into these wacky conspiracy theories that “antifa” or someone is purposefully setting these blazes.

Even my own daughter tried to tell me that child traffickers were harvesting “Adrenochrome” from their victims. The #saveourchildren hashtag is trending, because, you know, it sounds good.

The reality that climate change is causing all this destruction and heartache is much less sexy and meme-able.

      1. Very sorry to hear about that, GG. Best wishes.

I went through something similar in spring, 2017 when my under-graduate alma mater in Indiana closed, due to financial problems, after 129 years.

      2. Would any normal person even know adrenochrome existed without Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas? Is 2020 simply an irresponsible, depraved and extended ether binge?

      3. Thanks guys.  I've been reading reports that embers have crested the Divide and there are now fires on the east side of Rocky Mountain National Park.  Mandatory evacuation orders have been issued for Estes Park.

Multiple reports are stating that East Troublesome fire was human caused.  My bet is it was a hunter trying to stay warm.

        1. Truly a disastrous fire. I know folks in Grand County – thinking of you and them. I have not heard confirmation of the destruction inside or outside of towns (Grand Lake, Granby, and Hot Sulphur have all been threatened), but I know we'll be hearing lots of bad news from this fire, as it is even threatening Estes Park on the other side of Rocky Mtn National Park now.

        2. What a tragedy, GG. So hard to watch.

I remember from my last visit up that way, the millions and millions of dead trees killed by pine beetles. From the air, the pervasiveness of the investation is even more apparent.

Climate change…the warming of the forest and the drought, weakened the trees. They died by the millions. I recall imagining the worst case scenario back then. I just saw it on television today.

          This is truly heartbreaking.

    3. Gilpin Guy I am very sorry to hear that, and to witness all of this destruction in our beautiful home we call Colorado.  Keep your chin up friend.

    4. Deep sympathies

… my spouse and I and friends spent a summer week at Grand Lake lodge about 20 times.

I hate to think of what is gone from the Troublesome fire.  The pictures and stories that will come in the next few days, as people are allowed back in to town, into RMNP, and other evacuated areas are going to be heartbreaking.

  2. This is not Colorado related, but it is just too funny. The Ghislaine Maxwell deposition transcript was released today, but with most of the names redacted (blacked out). But they also included the word index – a listing of all of the words in the transcript, in alphabetical order, with a reference to where the word appears. The redacted words are blacked out in the index. However, query – what proper name might alphabetically appear between "clients" and "clock." What famous name, already associated with Epstein, falls between "depth" and "describe." I can only imagine how much the various lawyers were paid, only to make such an idiotic mistake.  Breaking the Maxwell Deposition Code

            1. As I'm sure you know, I was referring to a different Clinton who was witnessed clapping on the downbeat to Fleetwood Mac's "Don't Stop Thinking About Tomorrow." The actual George Clinton was decidedly funky – "funky" might not even be a strong enough word.

                    1. @Early Worm: here are some of the sides I've been playing recently on the car CD player. Look for them on YouTube. In no particular order…..

Rhythm of the Saints, Paul Simon, 1990

John Tesh, Live at Red Rocks with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, 1995

ANYTHING by Afro-Celt Sound System (combines Irish music with an African beat)

Best of (the late) Cesaria Evora, 1998 (a.k.a. Big Mama from Cabo Verde)

Solo Para Ti, by Ottmar Liebert y Luna Negra, 1992 (flamenco jazz from Santa Fe)

  3. WOTD from David Kurtz at TPM: "Biden condemns SCOTUS expansion to Death by Committee".

Note the time frame: 180 days. So the commission will have six months, from the time it is constituted, to come up with recommendations. Play that out: a few weeks to stand up the commission, six months to perform its duty, and then the legislative work starts. If the window for fundamental democratic reforms is one year from inauguration, which is a reasonable estimate, then this move alone could knock court reform right out of that window in which political will and wherewithal are both present.

If you don’t go target the power center for white minority rule, which is what the federal judiciary will be if Republicans lose the Senate, then you are dooming not only your substantive policy agenda (health care, COVID response, economic reform, etc) but your process reforms (voting rights, gerrymandering, census, etc), which are designed to topple white minority rule and level the playing field.
