Romer leads while City Council twiddles thumbs

If you haven’t already heard about it, one of Denver’s local businesses is being put out of business because of out of date regulations. These rules make it illegal for mobile food trucks to park anywhere on the streets of Denver. The Cupcake Truck had been providing tasty treats from their truck until an enforcement officer decided to shut them down. Read about it at http://www.denverpost.com/comm…

So you’d think the City Council would step in right away and fix this right? Nope. They’re twiddling their thumbs. Mayor candidate and former State Senator Chris Romer is the only one stepping up and showing leadership to save Denver’s local businesses. You can sign the petition at http://romerformayor.com/Cupca…

Senator Romer might not be able to change the rules since it’s a city regulation but he’s out there fighting just like he did in the Colorado Senate. The people who can do something about it? They’re silent. They could have done something to prevent this (that would have been leadership) but they didn’t do that and they’re still not doing anything. Two of them want to become Mayor but they’re not even doing their job on city council to protect jobs in Denver.

Sign the petition to save the cupcake truck and other small businesses at http://www.romerformayor.com/C…

And then contact the city council members who are twiddling their thumbs and tell them to show some leadership and change the regulations to allow food trucks to operate in Denver.

  1. Surely there are more than two on Denver’s city council, no?

Or is this just a less than subtle campaign promo for Romer that you wrote? I mean, if you genuinely care this about this issue and aren’t just using it as a prop for your mayoral candidate, why only mention the mayoral candidates? Since it is a city issue, seems to me you’d want us to contact those that can actually change the regulations, right?

Nice “petition” link to Romer’s campaign website. Nice touch, that.

    1. I had specifically listed Hancock & Linkhart because they’re running to be Mayor and boasting about their great work on City Council. Just chanting “We are Denver” or calling yourself a “Proven Leader” doesn’t mean much if you’ve watched a problem exist and done nothing and when it hits the press you still sit and wait for somebody else to lead.

I did forget there is one other city council member running for Mayor who says they’ve shown leadership:

      Carol Boigon

      720-515-5311

      http://www.boigonfordenver.com

And since you asked, you can contact any of the City Council members here:

      http://www.denvergov.org/cityc

      Contact away.

      1. Helpful though since I can now skip over any diary with your name on it from here on out.

Thanks for the link to the City Council members and for clearly up your intent here.

        1. But I think the real answer is that Food Not Bombs wasn’t his daily sugar fix.  At least that’s what I got out of his interviews on the local news.  The man likes tiny cakes, screw anything else.  #WhoDoesntLoveASpecialInterest

  2. I’m so tired of shill diaries that try to be subtle and pseudo-journalistic. This one does everything except end it with “Paid for by Chris Romer for Mayor”. Consider us officially hit over the head with a hammer.

    1. You would think Adam Dunstone would at least have his shills to change name between posting pseudo-press releases for Bennet and pseudo-press releases for Romer.

        1. now now — no need for the hatred — I thought it was funny.

I haven’t seen much interesting to comment on to be honest.

I’m glad we are on the same side on this one.

          1. Couldn’t find a single thing like the 2010 elections to be remotely interesting enough to pop your head back up? Or did you use one of your sockpuppets to weigh in?

How could I possibly hate you? I can’t hate somebody so pathetic. I don’t have it in me.

And we aren’t on the same side. I could care less about this race while you sound quite invested in carrying over your last vendetta straight to a current campaign.

            1. I’m not a metro area person either — I don’t have an investment in this race any more than other non-Denver Coloradans.

As I said…I’ve been here a few times (i.e. read the site) and didn’t see much I felt like commenting on — and I figured the type of response I might get, so I didn’t bother.

I was making a joke…guess I should have picked a day you were on your meds or something.

              1. Hmmmmmmm…… that makes my guessing much more interesting.

I hope we get to argue someplace else, Stryker. I think this cupcake truck crisis is pretty lame, too. I like biscotti.

  3. Again, really?  From someone who spent his life twiddling his thumbs until he decided he wanted to be Mayor?  Not everyone can call up daddy and get a cupcake truck back.

This is so sad.  Chris Romer has no substantive (sober) additions to the policy debate.  I guess I would be disappointed if it didn’t come from …. Chris Romer.

SAVE OUR CITY!! DO NOT VOTE FOR CHRIS ROMER!!!!

  4. Romer does something worthwhile.

I guess what they say is true for blind hogs and broken clocks has finally shown itself true for mayor-wannabe, “Cupcakes” Romer.

(There’s also a few jokes about cupcakes being of personal interest to his-without-honor, but I’ll let others have that fun.)

      1. cupcakes with z-i-p-p-e-r-s!!!!   And, we could do one of those p-i-l-o-t p-r-o-g-r-a-m-s . . .

That would be so cool, man . . .

(I should run for freakin’ mayor — when I’m not so high).

  5. It protects local businesses that pay their taxes. I remember having a vendor’s license in 1984 trying to sell Mexican imported pottery and sweaters. The cops made us move and  roll the cart constantly  due to local business coomplaints which effectively ended that venture.
