In the face of minor jabs at Dick Wadhams by political opponents, wannabes and losers, Colorado House Speaker Frank McNulty Wednesday endorsed his old friend for a third term as chairman of the Colorado Republican Party.
I think Wadhams is the only candidate who can build the GOP and give it a chance to go red in the 2012 elections, assuming the party nominates a candidate who doesn’t have the Ken Buck Syndrome. That Dems have been attacking Wadhams so viciously only shows how much they respect and fear him.
I’ve posted a clip of McNulty’s endorsement on my blog, if anyone cares to view it. This was the first time I got to hear and see him in action. Future GOP gubernatorial or senatorial candidate? Very possibly. He’s a smart guy.

I want to be the first to endorse Dick Wadhams. He did a hell of a job this last time around.
All kidding aside, I was wondering if someone had some insight on who else is considering running. I heard maybe Tom Wiens, but who else?
Several liberty groups’ folks and Dan Maes were rumored to be considering running, but now that Wadhams has announced that he’s running, they may be reconsidering.
Nobody with Wadhams’ credibility, vote counting experience or campaign management talents has been mentioned so far.
Tom Tancredo wants a new face. Before he jumped into the gubernatorial fiasco, he said he thought State Sen. Ted Harvey (SD-30) should run for governor. I’ve seen rumors that Harvey was considering running before Wadhams declared for a third term. Harvey’s smart enough to stay out of it now, I’m guessing.
Former State Sen. Tom Weins ran a lackluster campaign for U.S. Senator last year. His name has come up for state chair. Maybe he could win if he promised to work as a volunteer instead of asking for Wadhams’ big salary. But he’s also smart enough to get out of the way when he sees stronger opponents standing in his way.
A new Colorado resident and the campaign manager for one of last year’s minor senate candidates have announced that they’re running for chair, but I don’t think they have much of a chance against Wadhams.
The question, I think, is do the rural counties like and support Wadhams? Some don’t, but he’s visited most of the 64 counties, I think, and I’m betting he’s counted those votes and decided he can win.
There will be turnover in the county party leaders who will vote for the next chair. I have no idea about how much turnover there will be in next month’s county elections or how new leaders might vote.
