Gessler Refuses to Acknowledge Tone Deafness

( – promoted by Colorado Pols)

Big news today when Secretary of State Gessler hired a new Chief Administrative Officer in the form of Gary Zimmerman. OK, maybe not so big news.

Gessler seems to think the pundits and chattering class will be suspicious because he knew Zimmerman in his pre-SoS professional life.

That’s not why our constantly conflicted Secretary makes us nervous. Zimmerman is straight from the Colorado Independent Auto Dealers Association. You may remember that particular group as owing more than half a million dollars in fines to the SoS. It came up during the race since Gessler was their registered agent at the time. Oh, now you remember.

Christ, Scott, give us a month off.

    1. Wouldn’t be surprised at all.

The entity is in “good standing”, but I don’t know what that means for fines. It could just mean that the reports have all been eventually filed.

      1. I’m glad those fines weren’t just written off — that would have been inexcusable.

Someone without a deep understanding of mathematics might look at that and say ignorantly, “Well, they just wrote off $496,025 of that fine.”  On the contrary, what actually happened was that the SOS’s office decided to collect 1.68% on the dollar.  That’s governance!

Then, you hire the scofflaw into your department and pay him (???) because how else is this guy going to afford that harsh settlement unless the taxpayers help him out a little?  That’s good Republican governance!

            1. Who played for the Broncos.

It’s not.  I looked him up on LinkedIn.

I guess I need to research and write about this somtime soon.  I was critical of Buescher for hiring Tom Downey right in the middle of the campaign; I suppose hiring a former client shows even more tone-deafness.

  1. Buescher’s office had release more than 4 admin positions according to the story at the paper that shall not be hot-linked, while Gessler has only released over 2 positions.

While I think the SO[B] needs all the help he can get, the hilarious comments in this thread show just how idiotic Gessler’s choices continue to be!
