Every Male GOP State Senator Joins Gratuitous Planned Parenthood Attack

UPDATE: The Colorado Independent’s John Tomasic:

As the federal government prepares for a disastrous shutdown pinned largely to a House Republican amendment that would defund Planned Parenthood, Colorado Republican Senators attempted to mimic the legislative strategy that has led to the Capitol Hill standoff. Weeks of tense negotiations in Denver produced a budget plan tentatively embraced on both sides of the aisle. Then on Friday stepped social conservatives in the Senate who during floor debate inserted a hot-button “defund Planned Parenthood” amendment into the budget negotiation…

Senators Ellen Roberts, Nancy Spence and Jean White wouldn’t sign on to the GOP attack on Planned Parenthood. Spence reportedly said the organization was vital to supplying poor women with reproductive health services.

—–

In Washington, a shutdown of the federal government is reportedly on the way after negotiations on the current year budget have broken down–according to Democrats, over politically charged (but fiscally meaningless) funding for Planned Parenthood.

In Denver this morning, the Colorado budget got sidetracked in an eerily similar fashion:

This is a proposed amendment to the “Long Bill,” Senate Bill 209, that attempts to block state funding for Planned Parenthood. It’s sponsored by every male Republican state senator as you can see above–as with the civil unions bill, the three women Republicans in the Senate were evidently left hanging. It will be defeated, of course, but the GOP Senate Minority takes a major credibility hit for wasting valuable time on this singularly beat-to-death (and toxic) issue. And it’s worse once you realize that it’s just the men going after Planned Parenthood. That looks…bad.

Of course, if Harry Reid is to be believed, they’re just aping their betters in DC…

    1. King S’ opponent in the last election was a woman.

Unfortunately, he’s pretty popular over here.  He speaks in the same bumperstickerese that people express on the rear bumpers of their pickups.

    2. Grantham’s opponent was a woman, a very strong candidate.  But places like Fremont County (and others) are loaded with people who vote for the R candidate no matter what.  Very tough.

  1. Didn’t I hear ALL LAST YEAR that GOP would focus on jobs and cutting government spending?

Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe state assistance to clinics that offer abortions (btw, that’s not the only thing these clinics offer) really does make up a large part of the state budget. Show me that my first grade daughter’s education is being cut because too many fucking women are getting abortions and I’ll understand why this should be in the budget.

Until then, keep your fucking social issues out of our fiscal issues!!
