  1. Josh Penry abandoned western Colorado long before he dropped out of the Governor’s race and finished his term as Senator (SD7)but he never really admitted how Denver-centric he’d become until now…

    2. really irritated me until I remembered that the only Republican to win more than 30% of our vote was Suthers (33%).

      That’s why there aren’t any Republicans running, Josh (I know, I hate Independents, too). Boo unions was a nice touch to prove how out of it you are.

        And awkward is exactly the word to describe the scene when I rolled into a fundraiser for Romer a couple months back – out of place, I was. I could feel the stinging glares of Romer’s young Democratic staffers, many of whom had probably posted all manner of ugly things about me anonymously on Colorado Pols.

        3. OK, I take back what I said about how he should never have been pushed out of the governor’s race because he was the best Republican candidate. Since he thinks we all just trash talk him around here, and he’s not going to bother figuring out whether or not he’s right before making the accusation, I’ll jump on the bandwagon: Penry’s father was a hamster and his mother smelt of elderberry. So there.

            When JoP peers into a mirror and sees ugly, I’m guessing it’s probably not the mirror’s fault?

    1. First, it’s the publishers who are offering the eBooks in a lot of cases.  So unlike the newspaper industry, which is stuck between a rock and a hard place when it comes to online content, the book publishers are at least still getting a piece of the pie with eBooks.

      Second, as you note, book publishers provide editing as part of the bargain, and professional book editors aren’t so easy to come by.  (Contrast to the music studios, whose sole contribution to music today is really the promotional / placement bit; artists can go get an independent sound engineer, can get their own CDs burned if need be – but the RIAA still has a pretty tight hold on distribution channels.)

      Some authors are escaping the arms of the publishers through eBooks, but it’s largely the well known authors who are able to do so successfully.

  9. It celebrates the Jewish people’s liberation from slavery under Pharaoh. Thousands of years later the Egyptian people, too, can celebrate getting out from under Pharaoh but their liberation is far from complete.  Here’s hoping that they will successfully complete their journey from slavery to freedom via the building of enduring democratic institutions including a constitution that guarantees civil rights and liberties and an independent judicial branch to protect those rights.

    And may relations between Jews and Egyptians one day be such that we can celebrate together, joining in repeating together the ancient Passover declaration “Once we were slaves and now we’re free” handed down over the millenia even to casual, liberal Jews like me.  Pretty cool to be part, and know that my son has been taught that he’s part, of that unbroken chain. Regardless of how much or little of the story is historic, the chain is real.  Happy Passover.

    2. I’m pleased she’s dating a Jewish person. I did too for seven wonderful years of my life.

      The 40 years in the desert was always a mystery to me, since the distance between Cairo and Jerusalem is about 275 miles.

      I very good Jewish friend of mine answered it over dinner recently. According to her, they stayed away from the promise land for more than a whole generation, so that those to be born in the Promised Land would have no vestige of slavery in their heart or soul.

    Editorial cartoonist Mike Keefe of the D****r P**t has won this year’s Pulizter Prize for cartooning. He won the 2011 John Fischetti Editorial Cartoon Competition earlier this year so he is on a roll. His home paper reacts here.

        Keep pointing out what you consider the best info there.  It would probably take me forever to go through it and parse it out so if you read a lot of it, I would be interested in knowing what you thought was most important.

          This line seems to advance abandoning morality and ethics – “We will be results-oriented rather than good intentions-oriented.

          Then there is the undeniable “at war” and agressiveness about the whole thing that is unnerving.

          Most important? I’ll let others weigh in on that!
