UPDATE #2: Boulder police confirming 10 fatalities including one police officer.

—–

UPDATE: Statement from Rep. Joe Neguse:

Today’s events are simply devastating. Like my fellow Coloradans, my heart is heavy, in grief and in anguish. Andrea and I are heartbroken, and we are praying tonight for our entire community in Boulder — for the victims and their families—including a police officer who tragically lost their life in the line of duty— for the survivors, for the frontline grocery store employees, and for the brave first responders and local law enforcement whose heroism truly saved lives. And we offer our heartfelt condolences to the many families mourning their loved ones. The loss of life is truly heartbreaking and unimaginable…

Twenty-one years ago, as a young student in Douglas County, I joined many Coloradans in weeping for the victims of the terrible massacre at Columbine High ten minutes from my high school. Two years ago, I felt the fear that so many Coloradans experienced learning of the shooting at the STEM School in Highlands Ranch, where my niece — a kindergartner — was locked down, as we all wept at the tragic loss of life. And tonight, I weep for the families of my constituents, who have tragically lost their lives in yet another mass shooting.

Enough is enough.

Americans should feel safe in their grocery stores. They should feel safe in their schools, their movie theaters and in their communities. While Congress dithers on enacting meaningful gun violence prevention measures, Americans — and Coloradans — are being murdered before our very eyes — day after day, year after year.

It doesn’t have to be this way. There are steps we can take — and must take — to protect our community; common-sense, broadly supported proposals that will save lives. If we are truly invested in saving lives, then we must have the willpower to act and to pass meaningful gun reform. The time for inaction is over.

Here we go again, folks.

    1. Fucked up how? Bad quality video?

Or does it show some of the horror? If it shows explicit and upsetting detail, it should be required viewing. Otherwise, it is just another blip in the ongoing carnage.

      1. I wasn't entirely kidding. Can you honestly say that if you heard that she or her husband engaged in a mass shooting, you would be totally shocked?

  1. Nine victims, according to Boulder Police Department. The one in hospital is the injured shooter, according to Commander Yamaguchi at the press conference earlier.

  2. Shit becomes way too real when you just receive a text from one of your kids telling you that she's alright — and you hadn't until that moment even considered the possibility that she might not be.

    1. Or when you have helicopters flying overhead all afternoon and your work notifies you to stay home or when wife's co-worker who works at KS records audio of shots from the bank next door or you kid's guitar teacher who lives across the street heard shots.

    2. "way too real," indeed.  Too many photos of reunions in the parking lot … and the realization that for many, many people linked to the 10 dead, there would not be such a reunion.

    1. Go away, you disgusting piece of excrement. Couldn’t you wait a couple of days before trying to make political hay from such unmitigated tragedy and suffering?

What ever point you want to make will not be original nor pertinent. So just STFU. Come back in a day or two and start with your nonsense. Not today.

    2. Mentally ill and paranoid, yes. Muslim, yes. Radical, no. Don’t you read your own sources?

And none of those would be a danger to the community if freaking Colorado State Shooting Association hadn’t blocked Boulder’s assault weaons ban.

    3. reliable news organizations name the individual as Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa

Do you know the gun dealer who sold the "AR-15-style pistol modified with an armbrace," weapon a week ago, Moderatus?  Are they pleased by the profit?

    4. Now is a good time to recall that Moderatus wrote here on this very blog that those Teller County trumper wingnuts had a "right" to pull people from their cars and beat the shit out of them.

Moderatus should be banned for open advocacy of violence.

      1. Wonder what Negev thinks about those “Teller CountyTrumper wingnuts”.

I’m kind of surprised we haven’t heard from Negev yet, to tell us that it’s “too soon” to reform gun laws, that if all the cashiers had been armed even if just with a bucket of rocks, or cans of Goya beans, it would have prevented the carnage.

I’m sure he has some distracting anecdotes to try to persuade us that Democrats are far worse people in every way.

        1. Hi Mama! I'm here. Ugh, not again. Hopefully you guys can come up with some common sense legislation that will prevent this from happening ever again. This is the most opportune time you have had in a long time to get something through nationally, so now would be the time to get some effective laws on the books.

          1. Now might also be a good time for the NRA and the Republican party to change their policies. Now might be a good time for NRA members to start telling their leaders enough is enough. Now might be a good time for Republicans to stop electing gun-toting grifters instead of serious public servants.

Republicans need to stop waiting for Democrats to force them to do the right thing.

          2. Huh. Sounds almost…reasonable. If that’s truly your take, maybe public service has mellowed you some. Please help lead your party back through the looking glass. I miss the fiscally conservative, no-nonsense, rule-of-law Republicans of years gone by.
