Kristi Burton Brown Wins Colorado GOP Chair Race

  • by: Colorado Pols

SATURDAY UPDATE: In the third round of voting, incumbent vice-chair Kristi Burton Brown defeats Scott Gessler in the race to be the next Colorado Republican Party chair. Colorado Sun:

Burton Brown beat out four other candidates for the job, including former Colorado Secretary of State Scott Gessler, communications consultant Jonathan Lockwood and past congressional candidates Rich Mancuso and Casper Stockham.

Candidates needed more than 50% of the vote to win. There were three rounds of voting, during which Lockwood, Mancuso and Stockham dropped out and threw their support behind Burton Brown.

“Kristi is going to bring us youth,” Mancuso said. “She is going to bring us new ideas.”

Colorado GOP chair candidates Scott Gessler, Kristi Burton Brown.

Tomorrow morning, the Colorado Republican Party Central Committee will convene virtually to select the next party chair to succeed outgoing Chairman Rep. Ken Buck and attempt from there to guide the party back from the abyss after devastating losses in the last two general elections. Five candidates including former Secretary of State Scott Gessler and incumbent vice-chair Kristi Burton Brown, as well as Jonathan Lockwood, Casper Stockham, and Rich Mancuso, are competing for the position.

As with all of our totally unscientific user polls meant purely for discussion purposes, we’re not interested in your personal preference: please indicate who you actually believe will win tomorrow’s election, and then tell us why in the comments below.

Who will win the election for Colorado Republican Party chair?

  • Kristi Burton Brown (40%, 63 Votes)
  • Scott Gessler (39%, 62 Votes)
  • Jonathan Lockwood (15%, 24 Votes)
  • Casper Stockham (3%, 5 Votes)
  • Rich Mancuso (3%, 5 Votes)

Total Voters: 160

  1. I'm honestly looking for KBB to upset. Gessler is tainted and I hear KBB has been working hard to win over people. Curious to see if Boebert helps or hurts her tho.

  2. Maybe in light of the Georgia election bill, the question shouldn't be who will win the election, but who's best suited to overturn the results.

      1. I think you're right. But per Twitter, the closest I ever want to get to the GOP Central Committee, the controversy now is over whether they should accept remote voting. So, my cynical focus might have morphed from overturning results to voter suppression, but maybe Gessler has the edge on that front as well.

  3. If they want to stick with the Screaming Yam and company, Gessler’s their man. He’s been hollerin’, “We was robbed!” since November. If they want to go back to the good ol’ days, I’d say Burton-Brown, she of the dogged Eggs Are People, Too campaigns. They could choose someone entirely new, but that would probably be too “progressive” for them.

  4. My money’s on the nutter douchebag . . .

. . . Still, it’s gotta’ be kinda’ tough, knowing that your clown act is the clown act that is gonna’ have to follow Ken Buck’s clown act?

      1. Got that right. Kristi Burton Brown doesn’t belong to any Sane Caucus within the COGOP. She was the one  who led ( and quickly abandoned)  an ill-considered effort to recall Rep. Tom Sullivan for being insufficiently pro-gun, or too pro popular vote, or something.

She is tight with the RMGO crowd- it’s easier to grift when you work with the pros.

  5. KBB. “Youth” and “new ideas” . . .

. . . Here’s a fresh, new idea:  Stop being petulant morons and idiots.

. . . Well, so much for new ideas, huh?

I guess it’s back to “fixing the messaging,” and more red-meat rallies with the crazies and senior citizens, then?

  6. Per the update,

    "new ideas"

    – anti abortion

    – private property rights at conception

    – more recalls

    – Trump was robbed

    Not seeing "new."

  7. Sounds like the "anyone except Scott" sentiment was strong.  Once the other three were out and endorsed, KBB, "The final vote was 226 Colorado GOP central committee delegates for Burton Brown and 154 for Gessler."

Colorado Sun also reported "Republicans also on Saturday elected Priscilla Rahn, an unsuccessful University of Colorado regent candidate, as vice-chair of the state party.  Marilyn Harris, an unsuccessful statehouse candidate from southwest Colorado, was elected as secretary."
