What you can do to fight for progress this week (March 29)

Today, Gov. Jared Polis made what could be the most important announcement since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. This coming Friday, everyone in Colorado aged 16 and up will be eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Everyone.

As usual, Colorado is ahead of the curve in responding to this emergency, and the general public in Colorado will have access to vaccines sooner than most states. Across the nation and the globe, the race is on to outpace the pandemic with life-saving vaccines. In Colorado, we’re privileged to have competent public health and elected officials. The proof is in our lower rate of illness and death in Colorado than most other states.

Now it’s your turn to be part of the solution: if you haven’t already done so, the time has come to make your plan to get vaccinated against COVID-19 as soon as you’re eligible. Visit the state’s COVID-19 vaccination portal to get started—and once you’ve gotten your appointment, take a few minutes to encourage your friends and family to get vaccinated right away as well.

With your help, we’ve come so far in just a year: through the worst of an unprecedented global health crisis, economic upheaval that required us to come together as a nation, and an election that pulled our nation back from the brink of calamity under the last president.

Through all of these struggles, your persistence and courage in the face of adversity has not just given me hope, but made the difference in tangible changes that will leave our state and nation better off. This Friday is my last day as Executive Director of ProgressNow Colorado, and I couldn’t be more proud of the last five years at the helm of this amazing organization. As I hand off this important work to the next generation of leadership, I am very hopeful about where we are all headed together.

The countdown is on. ⏱️ Now that Congress has passed The American Rescue Plan, an ambitious COVID-19 relief package, we have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to fight for climate action, jobs, and economic justice. Colorado and cities across the country are organizing and taking action on this day to pass the THRIVE Act (https://www.thriveagenda.com/) to do just that. Our cities are burning, polluting corporations are making us sick, our housing crisis has no end in sight- we are calling on our elected officials to do what is best for all Coloradans. We aren’t just facing one crisis. Global pandemic, mass unemployment and eviction, systemic racism, climate crisis — they are all connected. What else needs to happen to prove we need the THRIVE Act to pass NOW?

Race Class Narrative Briefing Hosted by Rise Up Colorado

The Race Class Narrative began as a nationwide research project to help people envision a multiracial country in which everyone has economic opportunity and is now a narrative framework for us to have intentional conversations doing what many of us instinctively knew was right… talking about both race and class as a necessary package. Both economic and racial justice are core progressive priorities, but too often we discuss them as if they were separate. On the contrary, racial and economic harms are intertwined.

Colorado Sierra Club: Colorado New Volunteer & Activist Orientation

Learn about Colorado Sierra Club’s priorities from protecting public lands to climate action and how you can help. This is a great event for everyone looking to find fun ways to protect our communities and our planet from the comfort of your own home (for now). Volunteers play a crucial role at Sierra Club and are active at many levels. Volunteer activities include education at outreach events, advocacy, electoral work and helping to plan and execute campaigns. At the end of the event, we aim to connect you with at least one volunteer team for you to get involved with.
