Here’s an interesting take on the “crime” of the wording of the El Paso County, Colorado term limits question on the 2010 ballot approved by the then commissioners Sally Clark, Dennis Hisey, Amy Lathen and Wayne Williams: http://pblumel.blogspot.com/20…
What I have heard is that just like the AFP and Crank educated the voters on Richard Skorman in the Colorado Springs’ mayor’s race, it’s their plan to put as much $$$ resources, starting within the next 24 hours, with media buys to encourage the current board to put an honestly worded term limits question on the 2011 ballot. The beginning salvo of $$$ spent withiin the next 24 hours and the next few weeks would not be the most significant expenditures, from what I’m hearing. Instead, the heavy barrage of $$$ spent would be in the Republican primary in 2012. Here’s how the big dollars would be spent in the 2012 Republican primaries, from what I’m hearing.
Any commissioner who in the next few weeks votes against putting the term limits question on the November 2011 ballot will be confronted in the Republican primary with a voter education onslaught like Skorman experienced in his race for mayor.
There are names being tossed around that I had heard before this latest piece of news who had said they might be interested in contesting Lathen, Clark or Hisey in a Republican primary in 2012. If any of these three vote against putting the term limits question on the November 2011 ballot, the expressions of interest will be solidified and Hisey, Clark, and Lathen will be contested. And why shouldn’t someone who was wavering before on running agaisnt them not choose to take them on in a primary? With the AFP media buys successfully educating the Republican primary voters on the “crime” on the term limits question from 2010, the incumbent Republican, whether Clark, Hisey, or Lathen who may be foolish enough to vote against putting the question of term limits back on the 2011 ballot, won’t have a chance to win his/her primary.
