he new Des Moines Register poll, which was released late Saturday night, tells the story.

Bachmann is in a statistical dead heat with former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney – she takes 22 percent to his 23 percent. Businessman Herman Cain is the only other candidate to receive double-digit support (10 percent.)

While the topline numbers are impressive for Bachmann, they reveal only some of her Iowa strength.

The other piece of it comes from the passion that the Minnesota Republican engenders in her supporters. In the Register poll, 65 percent said they had a favorable impression of Bachmann, with 31 percent saying they felt very favorably toward her. (Just 12 percent felt unfavorably about Bachmann.)

  3. How can the Queen of the Teabaggers justify taking all of those Federal dollars for her “family farm” and her husbands’ business while hooting a shrieking to cut the payouts to such socialist programs as Veteran Health Care?

    An examination of her record and finances showed that a counseling clinic run by her husband received nearly $30,000 from Minnesota and the federal government in the last five years. And a family farm in Wisconsin, where she is listed as a partner, received about $260,000 in federal subsidies.



    In Bachmann’s financial disclosure forms, she reported receiving between $32,503 and $105,000 in income from the farm, at minimum, between 2006 and 2009.

    Bachmann and her staff had declined to comment to The Times. But asked about the issue on “Fox News Sunday,” she insisted that she and her husband had not benefited at taxpayers’ expense.

    1. Republicans depend on dems belittling, patronizing, and dismissing republican candidates.  It is the only way left for dems to feel superior, as they lost so spectacularly last fall. So your objective contribution is very much appreciated.

      The only part of the Bachmann business empire is the care of foster care children.  How much was the subsidy?  What happened to the children?  Did they receive medical care through a government program?

      1. She and her husband took Federal Funds (in Teabagger language: “Wasteful Federal Spending”) in the form of farm subsidies and other payments to a counseling clinic, all the while she’s derided OTHER types of Federal Funds using the Teabagger term.

        So, while running on a “holier than thou” platform of her stellar ethical conduct, she also has no problem cashing those Federal Checks. I guess if you massage the message to say “oh, WE really didn’t get the money, it was for our in-laws or employees” that somehow positions the Teabagger Halo back on top of your head.

        So, if you say that point out blatant hypocrisy in candidates is “belittling, patronizing, and dismissing republican candidates” then get used to it, because the Republican’t President Race is going give me TONS of opportunities….  

        1. Most dems dismiss her as a “crank”…I was complimenting you for taking her seriously enough to point out how she is a federal fund dipper…plus, I think that the foster care program is another example of where she relied on government funding and probably medicaid for the kids….

      That whirring sound TeaBaggers hear are their hard-earned campaign donation dollars sucked down Bachmann’s vortex of mendacity.

        Snickering readers in New York or Los Angeles might be tempted by all of this to conclude that Bachmann is uniquely crazy. But in fact, such tales by Bachmann work precisely because there are a great many people in America just like Bachmann, people who believe that God tells them what condiments to put on their hamburgers, who can’t tell the difference between Soviet Communism and a Stafford loan, but can certainly tell the difference between being mocked and being taken seriously. When you laugh at Michele Bachmann for going on MSNBC and blurting out that the moon is made of red communist cheese, these people don’t learn that she is wrong.   4. Bachmann terrifies me. If she somehow knocks off Mittens and becomes the nominee — which I don’t think WILL happen but certainly COULD happen — and the economy continues to flail, or dips even further…

    In Waterloo, Iowa on the eve of her official presidential campaign announcement, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) told Fox News that she has “the spirit” of John Wayne.

    The presidential hopeful — who was born and grew up in Waterloo, Iowa before moving to Minnesota — said, “Well, what I want them to know is just like, John Wayne was from Waterloo, Iowa. That’s the kind of spirit that I have, too.”

    Now let’s look at her factual fuckover.

    The Washington Times points out one slight problem with the Tea Party favorite’s remarks: The John Wayne with roots in Waterloo, Iowa is John Wayne Gacy, a serial killer who was executed by lethal injection in 1994 after being convicted of 33 murders.

    John Wayne — the late movie star, director and producer — was born in Winterset, Iowa, but appears to have no specific connection to Waterloo..”

    Bachmann admits John Wayne flub, but still insists John Quincy Adams was a Founding Father

    Michele Bachmann acknowledged Tuesday that she misspoke when she claimed yesterday that actor John Wayne was from her hometown of Waterloo, Iowa. But the 2012 GOP hopeful refused to dial back on another one of her notable gaffes: Her claim that the nation’s Founding Fathers “worked tirelessly to end slavery.”

    In an interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, the Minnesota congresswoman insisted she was right on the slavery claim and pointed to the career of John Quincy Adams, the nation’s sixth president who was not yet nine years old when the Declaration of Independence was drafted with the help of his father, John Adams.

    Bachmann insisted John Quincy Adams, who later worked to end slavery, should be considered a “Founding Father.”

    “He was a very young boy when he was with his father serving essentially as his father’s secretary,” Bachmann told ABC. “He tirelessly worked throughout his life to make sure that we did in fact one day eradicate slavery.”

    But Stephanopoulos interjected, insisting that the younger Adams had never been considered one of the Founding Fathers.

    “Well, John Quincy Adams most certainly was a part of the Revolutionary War era. He was a young boy but he was actively involved,” Bachmann replied.

    Now we know why Batshit Bachmann wouldn’t debate that 15 yr old.  Hell, Bachmann ain’t smarter than a 3rd grader and she proves it everyday.  

    Hilarious that God told her to be a tax attorney but forgot to tell her to study basic American history.

    Anway, Caldera’s caller said that the Founding Fathers worked to eradicate slavery, but the “government” made them keep slavery.  Caldera agreed.  Next day, Fox news had

    Pat Caldell on reporting on a Rasmussen report that a majority of Americans (republicans?…I missed the first part) felt that the current federal government was a bad as the British had been before the Revolutionary war…..

    Caldell said there is a “pre-revoluntary mood” in the country and the politicians are missing it..

    Reinventing the so-called “Founding Fathers” and the history of our own revolution is part of the “disinformation campaign.”…funding by whom?  The Chinese?  Could be.

    My eyes are going and so I am back to listening to the radio and tv…
