(A little something fun for Friday – promoted by c rork)
Howdy Polsters! I know a lot of you are from the Denver Metro area and to those of you who aren’t, some of you may be in town on September 17th so I want to invite you to a really cool and totally free (canned goods are appreciated) event in NW Denver. It’s our Jobs Jam event and it will feature speeches from a few local electeds and some great bands. From the Colorado Wants To Work Website:

Wow, great event.
But there will be jam! Or something!
Is it they truly can’t come up with anything to help people find jobs? Or do they figure acting concerned is sufficient?
especially with the poisonous political climate. Granted, there have been practically no profiles in courage lately from politicians, but if there was a magical policy fix for the unemployment problem in this country, don’t you think they would have tried it by now?
The problem isn’t really the pols, it has more to do with the greater political system–especially the special interests that power the Democratic Party–who think that events like this are really useful. How about a fucking job fair for crying out loud?
It won’t magically give us full employment, but it would have us well on the road to recovery.
isn’t that we need more job fairs, as in that the jobs are out there but people just aren’t looking hard enough. The problem is that there are 5 (last random stat I think I read, could be slightly more or less now) unemployed people for every job opening. A job fair provides a forum for employers with openings to find applicants, but the problem is the lack of openings. This event at least brings attention to the issue in a way that might bring in some people other than the same people who hit up rallies again and again and again.
