Radio host nudges National GOP Chair to say Perry is electable even if he's against Social Security

(Better answer urgently needed – promoted by Colorado Pols)

KHOW’s Caplis and Silverman show is drifting rightward these days, as Silverman talks about registering as a Republican so the GOP will select an electable prez candidate in 2012.

But Silverman, who leans right but says he’s an independent, can’t convince GOP-talking-point-machine Caplis that Rick Perry is unelectable. Caplis seems warm to Perry and is keeping an open mind.

Silverman put his sharp questioning skills to work on this topic Sept. 9, when GOP National Committee Chair Reince Priebus was on the show. Silverman was hoping Priebus would agree with him that Perry’s views on Social Security make him look more like a loser.

But Priebus wouldn’t bite. He rejected Silverman’s assertion in this exchange.

Silverman: Mitt Romney went on our KHOW colleague Sean Hannity’s show today and said, “If we nominate someone who the Democrats can correctly characterize as being opposed to Social Security, we will be obliterated as a party.” Romney’s read Perry’s book, Fed Up. So did I. I watched that debate the other night. Didn’t Rick Perry make himself unelectable or at least start down that road.”

Priebus: No. You know, first of all, refereeing between the candidates, that’s a pretty dicey spot for me to be in, and I try not to do that.

Maybe he tries not to, but Priebus turned against Romney here by disagreeing with Silverman. He sided with Perry, who obviously thinks his position on Social Security will not obliterate him from being POTUS.

  1. About the GOP Chair refusing to be cornered into calling a candidate unelectable.  You say he’s siding against Romney but if he agreed he’d be siding against Perry. Refusing to side against one isn’t siding with the other.  It’s not siding. This seems like a non-story to me. No wonder this is a month old left over.  Aug 9th?  It’s front paged Sept. 13th why?

    1. I see it as a good question that forced him to take a side, unless he dodged it. I mean, he said Perry can be elected even if he is correctly tagged with being against Social Security.

      1. Party Chair as unsure as the rest of us as to what the outcome of this Tea infused selection process will be and doesn’t want to needlessly anger chunks of GO(T)P electorate. Wants to keep options open and bridges unburned. Stop the presses.

          1. I’m not making any comment here on the viability of the Perry candidacy. It’s just that Dems, unlike Rs, don’t feel they have to jump all over something just because an R said or did it.  Neither do we feel that we have to agree with or approve of everything any Dem says or does. We’re funny that way. It’s called independent critical thinking.  Try some. Wait, don’t. You’d be drummed out of the Borg.

            1. Do you think the memo didn’t immediately go out from the O-zone to try to drive a wedge between Romney and Perry supporters over SS? I am smart enough to know that Salzman’s propaganda, even when it’s so weak that fellow Democrats attack them like this one, has a paymaster.

Btw, I was paying you a compliment.

  2. Is the best you can do about talk radio???   Please give one example where Silverman has not been right of center?

The show has been right wing forever.  Silverman endorsed Tancredo for governor, for god’s sakes.

I don’t know what it is you are trying to do.  It makes me sad.

Yesterday, boyles question was “Are moderate Muslims a trojan horse for radical Islams?”  Where the hell were you with that….or are you still running from boyles…

    1. I’m glad you posted it here.

As for Silverman, he asks good questions. I criticize the show and praise it, too. I’m glad the show is still being aired.

      1. Silverman and Caplis are trained litigators. So, what you call “”good questions,” I call “leading questions.”  In a courtroom, there are rules on procedure, enforced by the judge, and there is also an opposing attorney; so it is a fair for both sides.

On the C&S show, there are no rules, no judge, and certainly

no opposing attorney.  Sometimes, and only rarely, Silverman and Caplis will not work in tandem…usually on minor social issues and Tibo.(sp)  But when it comes to screwing Obama, and the dems…they are both on the same side.

the American Bar Association was at one time going to have guidelines for attorneys to appear as media commentators and hosts…but I think they abandoned the attempt.

Why are you glad the show is still being aired… Other than giving you a topic? What shows would you like gone?  What shows would you like to see continued?

Finally, how do you think Steve Kelly is going to cut into

        boyles and sirota’s rating?

  3. This is a true story. He had an article in the paper years ago about how he hit the Colfax motels with racketeering litigation. I called him up seeking a RICO lawyer for labor racketeering.

He goes silent and says: Mr.Springfield, do you understand the implications of labor raacketeering? I reply of course I do.

He then states that he isn’t the man for the job. So I say, I thought you were tough stuff busting 20 dollar hookers, what’s the matter, you do RICO cases, right?

He repeats he’s not the man for the job and hangs up.

    Tough stuff Silverman.
