2. Obviously the corporate press (mainstream media) has no interest in covering this.

   This movement is to be watched for sure. Labor unions are said to be joining it. No doubt the middle class in this country is waking up to the fact there are few decent paying jobs anymore in this country (everything has been outsourced by multi-national corporations), and $ 9 trillion in wealth stolen in the housing/financial criminal conspiracy.

   1. Not sure where Wade got the $1.7 million figure (labor costs perhaps?  That would be a good thing, I believe).  From the DP:

      The Share in the Care campaign, the private effort to raise money to help pay for the restoration of the dome, announced Thursday that AngloGold Ashanti will be donating 72 troy ounces of 24-karat gold from its Cripple Creek mine to regild the dome.

      That’s $128,268 of gold by Thursday’s market price.

      But I was also shocked to only learn about the Occupy Wall Street movement this past Sunday.  Apparently, it’s been going on for weeks in New York.  

      Shame on our media for ignoring this news.

      1. The $1.2 million is probablay for repairs to the dome, of which the refinishing of gold is a small part.

         I love mentions of troy ounces of gold.  Remember the old child’s riddle: which weighs more, a pound of feathers or a pound of lead?

           A.  An ounce of gold weighs more than an ounce of feathers. Previous metals are weighed in troy ounces, which are heavier than the avoirdupois ounces used for common materials such as feathers.

           Okay, wise guy, which weighs more, a pound of gold or a pound of feathers?
         
           A.  A pound of feathers weighs more than a pound of gold.  There are only 12 troy ounces in a troy pound and even though the troy ounce is somewhat heavier than the avoirdupois ounce, the difference is not enough to make up for the fact that there are 16 avoirdupois ounces in an avoirdupois pound.

         You gotta love the English system of weights and measures.
