Definitely one of the more amusing clips sent our way recently. Folks, meet Michael Melvin, a candidate for the Westminster City Council running against incumbents Faith Winter and Bob Briggs–six candidates are competing for three available spots in this citywide race.
Melvin, a self-described "small government, low taxes" political amateur ("I'm not even a lawyer!" he says proudly on his website) responds in the video clip below to a question about the new mixed-use development Westminster Center, currently underway to redevelop the area around the recently-closed Westminster Mall. With transcript:
MELVIN: To me it's an example, possibly an example, of government overreach. The whole concept of the Center smacks me a little bit of 'sustainability.' Everything's going to be in one place, you're not going to need a car, and you're going to work and you're going to shop and live in the same place…
'Sustainability,' folks, scares me. [audience laughter]
No disrespect, but we would probably have bust out laughing too. A natural response when somebody describes something that sounds pretty good, then declares himself "scared" of that good-sounding thing. Without saying why that good-sounding thing is so, you know, scary. Are they planning to take our cars away when we move to Westminster Center? No? Will they force us to work there and shop there–or even to live there? No? It seems like "sustainability" is a scary word, kind of like the words "happiness" or "ice cream" are scary to some people.
That is, crazy people.

Then its Blue-helmeted UN thugs and Sister City programs. Mark my words, you might think its about bike lanes, but its really Agenda 21. Google it.
The “Doh!” is on you. For the record.

I’m planning to fill out my ballot today, and since I live in Westminster, this is making my job a little easier.
Who is this clown? I’ve never heard of him, he can’t be very important. I’ll bet there are some Democrats you’ve never heard of who are embarrassing. Lots of them in fact.
And post diaries about them.
Consider your bet to be taken.
Better to write blogs where they have a snowball’s chance in hell of making the front page. You’re being foolish to challenge me on this, since I can write three blog posts right now and never even leave Adams County.
Doh!
But posting them here is the condition to which you’re agreeing.
Melvin is the face of Westminster R’s.
There isn’t a large group of active R’s in Westminster, at least not very visible.
I dont think this guy is “the face” by any stretch.
I’ve inquired about him from people who are active and involved and no one has a clue who the guy is or where he comes from.
Perfect – by the definition I was referencing, he is the perfect face of Westmineter R’s.
Anyone who can be assumed to be a Republican is the face of all Republicans, especially if there is a photograph. And there is, obviously.
Well unsustainability must be far more comforting. ???? Go Faith Winter!
Looks like Westminster may have their very own Bryan Baum to laugh at/suffer. Good luck with this clown.
