(As pointed out by my main CoPolster on my flank (Rocco) ArapaGOP and his ilk failed to respond on Friday.)
Mitt Romney’s plan to help veterans is simple – .
Yep. None.
And it appears that no plan exists on Romney’s campaign website to address various issues affecting the U.S. military – for example, veterans’ health care and unemployment or, as Obama addressed today, servicemembers’ education. The “Issues” page lists 23 separate issues Mitt Romney has apparently chosen to focus on during his presidential campaign and none is “Veterans” or “Military.”

Link below to the Issues page on Romney’s site is telling – ArapaGOP, can you please find either “Veterans” or “Military” on this page? Or is he going to fire them as well?
http://www.mittromney.com/issues
In fact, NO ONE riding around in the GOP Clowncar since January has uttered one self-serving peep about veterans issues. The word veteran does not appear in the Ryan “chainsaw” budget, though it’s affects will be clear – if you’re a homeless vet, get our your kit because if you were using VASH vouchers from the VA, you’re fired.
(Mitt especially likes this, since he esp likes the Ryan budget.)
Initially, Romneybot 1 did float a plan to disassemble the VA and then privatize it, but had to sent in Romneybot 2 to say he never was considering that.
http://thinkprogress.org/healt…
Then I get confused…either Romneybot 1 or 2 said he’d increase funding to the Big Govt Healthcare system ….
http://thinkprogress.org/healt…
Yesterday, in response to the President’s speech, either Romneybot 1 or 2 said the way to treat PTSI and TBI was to just give them jobs. Except that when you go to the Romney Website, there’s not even a plan for that.
President Obama announced today at Ft. Stewart in Georgia that he will sign an executive order to protect veterans, members of the military and their families from deceptive and predatory marketing practices by some for-profit higher educational institutions.
Mitt Romney’s campaign tried to get out front of the news today by issuing press releases suggesting that the president hasn’t done enough for the nation’s veterans. Campaign spokesperson Andrea Saul said:
“Under President Obama, all Americans have suffered from one of the worst job markets in recorded history – and our nation’s veterans have been among the hardest hit. With more than twelve percent of our most recent veterans struggling to find work and nearly a million veterans unemployed, it’s clear that we need to do more to grow our economy and ensure that those who fight for America can find a job when they return home.”
Saul didn’t expand on the “do more” part of her critique. The other press release titled “Mitt Romney Will Give Veterans A Chance to Find Good Jobs” links to a page on the campaign website that makes no mention of any plan for veterans.
So, let’s see what the Romney mouthpiece on this fine site have to say….

The r challenger has no plan except to have a plan to address the troops.
So far the guy can’t do anything because he is not in Congress. R’s in Congress are doing a damned good job of hurting vets as it is.
Something telling is a conversation I overheard at the VA hospital a couple of months ago. An attendant (a vet) was talking to a vet in a chair (he had one almost working leg – the other was probably fertilizer in Vietnam) The tv was tuned to Fox “news” for some reason, usually we watch game shows, and the entertainers were attacking Obama. “you hear that? They are attacking our man!”
Yup, they are attacking our man.
I have been very interested at Romney’s stand on health acre and like this blogger http://reallycheaphealthinsura… I’m not entirely convinced he has a solid plan.
Dear Danley —
More than 300,000 troops have been wounded during the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The USO has put in place a far-reaching set of programs to care for our wounded and their families. But still, we know we must do more.
That’s why we’re bringing our programs and services to the brand new Warrior Recovery Center here in Kandahar, Afghanistan, and to similar facilities throughout the country. And to encourage you to participate in this effort, a generous donor has agreed to match your gift to our Healing With Honor matching gift fund today.
Click here to make your tax-deductible Healing With Honor donation before the May 4 deadline and it will be matched dollar for dollar up to the $150,000 limit.
Often, our USO facilities are the first to provide support, comfort and connectivity to our troops during their recovery. USO volunteers bring these brave men and women comforts from back home and a shoulder to lean on.
I’ve seen how critical a role these centers play in our troops’ recovery. It’s here where we can sustain their hope for the happy and fulfilling future they so richly deserve.
That’s why your support is so essential right now. You can have a major impact on our operations at the new Warrior Recovery Center — and in the lives of our troops.
Click here to help support our wounded warriors with a generous gift to the USO today. Remember, every gift made before May 4 will be doubled up to the $150,000 limit.
This new space is more than just a place where our wounded troops can recover. It is a place where they can see how much America appreciates and honors the incredible sacrifice they’ve made for our country.
Please, make sure those who have sacrificed so much know we’re standing by their side every step of the way.
Thanks for all you do for our healing heroes,
Alan Reyes

…that fictional value is based on such Enron math as counting certain injuries as “traffic accidents” instead of casualties.
For example my OIF2 vet was riding in the .50cal MG position on top of a 5-ton truck, going about 90mph when the vehicle in front of his was blown into the air by an IED.
When his 5-tin hit the burning wreckage of the unlucky vehicle, he was thrown from the mount over the wreckage and landed hard on the road, severely injuring his back. He still crawled (using his arms since his legs wouldn’t work) to the burning wreck and retrieve his buddy in the cargo area and render first aid, but he bled out before the medevac helicopter arrived.
DoD says he was injured in a “traffic accident”, since his vehicle was not hit by the IED.
We know DoD has listed 494,000 troops as having mild to moderate TBI. The VA has had over a million new patients since 9/11.
330K is LOW.
Something very noticeable is happening at the Washington D.C. VA hospital, many more uniformed coming through carrying their papers in the universal important papers carrier – the manila envelope. Also, mental health appointments are tightening up.
I keep remembering the talking to I, and others, received a few years ago about how it was time to downsize the VA hospital system because there were going to be fewer veterans needing care; that the Vietnam era vets are dying off (please that one was so obviously stupid it couldn’t walk) and that there were fewer vets needing care, including spinal care, in the future so it was important to shrink the Aurora/Denver planned hospital.
The truth is we Vietnam era vets are going to be needing more care and there will be a lot more service connected care too. We are here for the next 30 some years. The west asia troops have been building up and now will be flooding in; needing as much or more care than we of the past.
Fortunately, the DC VA hospital is within waling distance (for those who can walk, transportation for those who can’t) of the US Capitol. There will be a march May 28 to the Capitol by vets demanding proper care and funding.
Finally, something I noticed during the last two months are the voices of children during the day. They are with dad or mom as they go to their appointments. Those voices tell me more than dry statistics about when the next wave of vets arrive. They started arriving yesterday.
I personally know of only a couple people who’ve served in OIF or OEF, and no one who has been injured.
Thanks for the work you do, and the reply, SSG_Dan.
SSG_Dan,
I’d like to contact you directly via email. I may be, oddly enough, in a position to send a well-meaning state leg candidate to your metaphorical door, to get them thinking and working about this.
Think you could send a hello email to scoutbooradley at gmail?
