We’ve had three great front page guest editors for the first half of 2012: thanks very much to Middle of the Road, ProgressiveCowgirl, and Pita for their valued contributions to our blog in the last six months. Colorado Pols is the most read and discussed political blog in our state for over seven years now because of our vibrant community of readers, and our elected front page guest editors exemplify the qualities we respect so much in all of you.
We will hold an election for three new front-page guest editors this weekend, June 23rd and 24th. The new editors will start on July 1st, and barring anything unexpected will hold their positions through the end of 2012–at which time we’ll have another election. We’ll conduct one poll of nominees, and the top three finishers from that poll will win coveted election-year front page editor spots. Our current editors are automatically renominated unless they decline.
Use this thread to nominate candidates for the three guest editor positions available. And remember, there are no limits on campaign spending. We’ll finalize the nominees Friday.
To learn more about the privileges and expectations of our guest editors, read this post, and feel free to ask questions. As always, we will be watching closely to ensure the election is fraud-free, so we remind readers as we do every time to not bother trying to cheat. We’ll catch you, and we’ll delight in humiliating you and everything you stand for.
Happy voting!

I know that I would not have the time it requires to do the job of Front Page Guest editor. For those of you who do not know, I was recently diagnosed with brast cancer, and really am not up to any new commitments until I get through the treatment phase.
I’m pretty fond of Progressive Cowgirl…
for repeat terms.
But never fear – I’ll be around!
I’ve sucked at FPE this time around. Lots of personal stuff going on and my heart just isn’t into it right now.
I just want to apologize to all of you here for falling off the map for the last 2 months. Probably should have done the honorable thing and just resigned.
Sincerest apologies to all and especially to Pols Govs for doing a less than stellar job, particularly in the area of writing up original content. I have completely dropped the ball in just about every category.
But for personal reasons, I must decline. My time the last few months has been limited and for that I apologize. Nevertheless, I’ll get my two cents in every now and then.
It’s been a pleasure to serve. Thank you all.
..they have to commit to recruiting and promoting political diversity on this site. PC did a fairly good job with what she had to work with, but we need more posts from the thinking Right on this website.
I am the first to admit that bench is pretty shallow, and the main Polster I’d like to see more of (ellbee) is definitely too busy with his real-world life to contribute any more than the already does. RegisteredRepublican has some good stuff, but, again, not a regular poster.
I do this to try and get the usual shrieking Repub idiots on this site to bring their game up. I’m still more than happy to pummel ‘tad and Arapabot when they post their usual stupid shit, but I do miss the informed, thoughtful debate between left and right we used to have on Pols.
For example, when have we had a thread as intense and insightful as the Steve Harvey vs Laughing Boy debate about the 2nd Amendment? If we tried to have that now, ‘tad would post stupid shit about how the UN arms treaty was infringing on the 2nd Amendment, and ArapaBot would post some line form the Romneybot campaign about how the erstwhile candidate was against the 2nd Amendment before he was for it.
Just my minimal, barely-coherent thought on the matter…
Even some formerly reliable thoughtful righties have gotten in touch with their inner Libertads. We don’t need that on the front page.
do you think Peak Politics is complaining about a lack of political diversity?
they complain about the lack of political diversity at the liberal universitys and schools, on the liberal blogs, and in the liberal media . . . all the time.
They’re very open-minded that way.
You still do.
So consider yourself nominated.
That was really nice of you to say.
If Ari hadn’t posted what he did, never would have chimed in, but, now, if nominated and elected, I’d serve.
This place could use some more traffic. If some of you could restrain yourselves from trying to out everyone that disagrees with you, it might be a good time.
Cheers, everyone.
now, if we can only find three decent candidates to run and defeat this scourge . . . er, I mean, good luck.
I second ellbee (if we still require seconds).
then I’ll be delighted to eat my words.
That’s all I’d ask of anyone else. I don’t find anyone more astute simply because they agree with me.
And as fun as that is to see SXP’s & Ralphie’s heads explode when I win, this time around I’m going to pass. I’ve had less and less time for politics recently and that’s going to continue.
For me being a FPE meant I had to get serious about interviewing as many of the candidates in competitive races as possible. And I no longer have the time required to do that (although if Obama or Romney is interested – for that I would make the time).
Good luck to everyone running.
Nobody actually nominated you.
Who doesn’t love countless iterations of the same bad European pop in over produced videos? Or long strings of conversation between David and David? I for one come here just for it.
you just earned the title of “nobody” . . .
And don’t worry, the pop will continue 🙂
For as to be considered? What does this FPE do? What happens to those whom’s terms expire? Are they enshrined in some Hall of Fame/Shame? Can we nominate the truly stupid incessant posters that people clearly love the most–as they seem to generate many of the comments, the BJliberGOP’s of the world?
Republican36 and Arvadonian.
I would also like to second the nomination for: RedGreen.
I must decline. I’m far too busy to dedicate the time I feel I would need to do the job well.
because of the thoughtful comments they post.
BlueCat, I decline as well but thanks for thinking of me. I second SSG and nominate Gray this time. And sorry for spelling it “Grey” the other day.
always has very well thought out stuff to say. Wish he would accept.
and, also, Droll — hear that? — your destiny is calling.
That’s not even nice. (I’m on to you.)
But I do second yours and L2.0’s nominations.
Intelligent, experienced, thoughtful and a Republican.
I also would vote for Ari, SSG Dan and Progressive Cowgirl.
while I am flattered to be nominated I must decline for this time. I know that a number of projects I have in line are going to take greater time the second half of this year.
I nominate Ralphie, Club Twitty, PCG, Blue Cat, Craig and SSG Dan. I think any 3 of them will do a good job.
Fairness does NOT require anyone to nominate or vote for AraphGOP, the guy is an outright fraud
But I have a hard enough time just writing my shitty little blog every day.
Plus I have another telescope on order–a solar scope that should keep me busy during most days.
I respectfully decline the nomination.
With a promise for my own regular contributions, and to promote others eclectically according to my own whims for fairness, justice, and stirring things up.
I’d like to see Jason have an FPE term, personally. He creates more original content for the site than anyone else.
he’s up early, has his fingers on the pulse of the readers, and prides himself on generating discourse & debate. ‘turd’s a
weinerwinner!it’ll be great fun to peruse his copy edits and I’m sure the resident rightiebot would really get off on what little power the post offers.
Turd already gets first say every morning . . . if no one else stops him.
Check with our rules committee, but by my call the above post is merely a (stupid) suggestion . . . a momentary lapse of reason . . . it doesn’t appear to rise to the level of an official nomination.
With Tadpoles’ propensity to post tons of excrement, this sort of encouragement is not a good idea. With Libertad as FPE, the endless posting of rightwing drivel will drive away our readers and drive the rest of us nuts.
Libby has no sense of fairness or equity…giving him the power to front page his choices would fundamentally change the Pols experience. It would be like wading through a river of shit.
Ellbee! Ellbee! Ellbee!
and second the nomination of several of those already nominated, though I don’t think seconds are required.
Just for fun, because it would be fun, I’m going to nominate Libertad and Libertad 2.0. It would add as much diversity to the site as, say, electing a husband and wife to the legislature. So I say let’s do it!
I nominate nancycronk as well. We can run as “Penalty Boxers for Colorado.” We’ll be the fringe centrist party (on average).
Get your passwords ready!
I don’t know if I’m funny enough.
I think we should bring back Steve Harvey and nominate him. His diaries made mine look short.
I don’t know if I’m funny enough.
I think we should bring back Steve Harvey and nominate him. His diaries made mine look short.
She’s been so active on the site and promotes good content that people take the time to write.
One more year! One more year!
Two smartasses who can give better than they get.
And new blood, which would be nice. Keep things fresh around here.
This has been mentioned before, but usually too late to do anything about it, and we always conclude we should do something next time. Well now it’s next time.
I wonder if, since we have three open slots, we could maybe allow everyone to vote for three candidates instead of just one. The way I remember it, we used to have one slot reserved for a lefty and one for a righty, and two separate votes, which was good for diversity (which a lot of people value).
Now this time, probably a lot of people are going to support ellbee, but may not vote for him if they only get one vote, so I could see ending up with three left-of-center winners. They’d probably all be great, but we’d all feel a little let-down if they all had basically the same views.
Allowing people to also have a second choice that counts allows them to, for example, vote for two contrasting candidates to ensure diversity on the front page. Or with three votes, to vote for a centrist as well.
I think this is a more common approach to elections when you have multiple open seats for the same position. (I can look it up if anyone cares.)
Been pushing it for awhile, myself.
Thank you for advocating for it, sxp. I’d love to see Pols run this election a little differently. The place could use a fresh coat of paint, know what I mean?
get to see it in the sky very briefly almost every AM. I once painted a large building’s trim and when I went to the paint store and said “periwinkle” eyebrows raised. But, seeing that trim against the sky was so cool when they were exactly the same color
since, as ’round the bend as he seems on a few issues, the dialogue in this country has shifted so far that he’s probably very close to the center. That way Libertad and Libertad 2.0 can vie for the right-wing vote, and everyone else can fight over the liberal slot.
(s)he’s always right!
Think of what an all-parody FPE slate would be like.
Can you build a whole blog out of in-jokes? I’d like to see. But first I want to see if you can build a whole blog out of blog-criminals.
