  1. From a Christian pastor:

     “The “unborn” are a convenient group of people to advocate for.  They never make demands of you; they are morally uncomplicated unlike the incarcerated, addicted or the chronically poor; they don’t resent your condescension or complain that are not politically correct; unlike widows, they don’t ask you to question patriarchy;

Unlike orphans, they don’t need money, education, or childcare; unlike aliens, they don’t bring all the racial, cultural, and religious baggage you dislike; they allow you to feel good about yourself without any real work at creating or maintaining relationships.

And once they are born, you can forget about them, because they cease to be unborn…
You can love the unborn and advocate for them without substantially challenging your own wealth, power or privilege, without re-imagining social structures, apologizing, or making reparations to anyone.

They are, in short, the perfect people to love if you want to “claim” you love Jesus but actually dislike people who breathe.
Prisoners?  Immigrants? The sick? The poor? Widows? Orphans? All the groups that are specifically mentioned in the Bible?
They all get thrown under the bus for the unborn”

    – Dave Barnhart

  2. The world became a slightly better place yesterday when Ken Starr died. If a hell there be, here's hoping an especially ghastly corner of it is reserved for ol' Ken.

  3. With Lindsey Graham’s gift yesterday, I have a question/proposal that might be very effective.

What if Schumer & Pelosi tell the Republicans that they can bring all their crazy proposals to the floor for a vote. With the restriction that each bill needs to be single issue and short so it’s a clear vote on that issue.

Outlawing gay marriage – vote. Outlawing contraception without a husband’s approval – vote. Outlawing interracial marriage – vote.

Get every incumbent on the record and every challenger can be directly asked about a specific bill. And all of them clear enough in their intent.

    ‘Would that work well?

    1. Problem would be the debate time in the Senate.  Unless there is a passed cloture motion (60 votes), debate can go on and on.  Even with cloture, 20 hours of debate unless the Senate passes a rule for that piece of legislation that says something different.

And there are a few other pressing matters left to get done before the NEXT break for "district business" — aka campaigning.  October 1 is the budget deadline… need bills or continuing resolution to pass.

    2. Interesting notion, David. Keeping in mind, however, that recalcitrance, petulance, and, contrarianism are long- wielded weapons in both houses. Such an agreement might be tough to find.

  4. George Will continues to use his WAPO access to comment on Colorado politics.

Why Colorado Gov. Jared Polis could answer Democrats’ 2024 prayers

[I think the link will elude paywall] If it doesn't or if you don't want to click there, you can get aa sense from a couple of paragraphs….

Colorado’s Gov. Jared Polis is artistic in his rhetorical avoidance of presidential politics: The mere mention of it produces a Jackson Pollock-style splatter of verbiage about how he thinks, and presumably dreams, always and only about Colorado.

However, if he is reelected in November, his personal fortune might be put in the service of his impressive political talents and ambitions. If so, a national audience can assess his knack for leavening his high-octane progressivism with departures from that church’s strict catechism.

    1. National and State GOP are seeing those same possibilities for Polis. There are 2 huge billboards in the West Colfax and Federal area, decrying Polis' supposed "Dismantling of the criminal justice system".

I have no idea what they're on about. But they are spending money messaging in a high-traffic, working class area. Why?

This is not about boosting Heidi Ganahl. They know she has no chance at the governorship in the 2022 election. This is their eye on 2024, and trying to set up a narrative about Polis before he even runs.

    2. There may only be room for one brilliant, white, male, family man, homosexual amongst the leading Democratic contenders, and I think Buttigieg is in the lead.  Having said that, would a Buuigieg – Polis ticket cause some Republican heads to explode?

  5. I love reading Jennifer Rubin's chronicles about Dear Leader's legal travails!

Trump’s legal problems multiply as his excuses disappear

However, Trump has more to worry about than “just” the troubling revelation in the affidavit and the devastating Justice Department brief. As the New York Times first reported, the Justice Department has sent out roughly 40 new subpoenas, including some pertaining to “Trump’s postelection fund-raising and the so-called fake electors scheme.” Any concern that the Justice Department would pull its punches should have been erased long ago, but the breadth of the latest subpoenas shows the department is digging far beyond the violence of Jan. 6, 2021. And that’s before we get to the Espionage Act investigation at Mar-a-Lago.

Trump’s legal problems are multiplying. (Remember that the Fulton County, Ga., grand jury is at work, too.) His excuses are evaporating, and his own lawyer might be enlisted to testify. Even a stable personality facing this onslaught might come unglued.

  6. Little Tucker’s bff has been busy.

Another Russian exec’s body found following mysterious death

A Russian energy exec "fell off his boat" and died last week, just after he met with Putin. His boss  "died of a heart attack" recently. Ravil Maganov, the chairman of the board of Lukoil, Russia’s largest oil company, "fell out of a window" two weeks ago. Execs from Gazprom and Novatek also died unexplainably in past months, joining at least 8 dead Russian energy tycoons.
Putin has mounting internal opposition – which he is attempting to solve with murders, like all dictators do.
