Dick Morris Admits What You Already Know

  • by: Colorado Pols

Newshounds:

Dick Morris visited the Hannity show [Monday night] to explain how he got it so wrong with his prediction of a “landslidey” Romney win. After blaming Hurricane Sandy and acknowledging that he got it “dead wrong” about the demographic turnout, Morris made a jaw-dropping admission. That his prediction was designed to help turn around Romney’s failing campaign…

Morris openly admitted his prediction was an election ploy:

“Sean, I hope people aren’t mad at me about it… I spoke about what I believed and I think that there was a period of time when the Romney campaign was falling apart, people were not optimistic, nobody thought there was a chance of victory and I felt that it was my duty at that point to go out and say what I said.” [Pols emphasis] And at the time that I said it, I believe I was right.

Dick Morris, a former advisor to Bill Clinton turned into a relentlessly pro-GOP cheerleader and laughably inaccurate predictor of future political events, was brought to Colorado by the conservative group Americans for Prosperity in September. At the time, Morris was of course confidently predicting a landslide victory on Election Day for Mitt Romney.

They say “fake it ’til you make it,” but as we’ve established, in 2012 they were just…faking it.

  1. He lied because the voters were falliing away from Rmoney, but he believed that Rmoney would win in a landslide.

Is there a logical issue here?

Of course, logic is a foreign word to Republicans.

To vote for a person because everyone else is voting for that person is pure Republican/Conservative/Team Sports/Ingroup/Amygdala way of thinking.

    1. He’s just lying some more. He has to eat crow – what choice does he have? – but he’s also trying to tell people that they can still trust him. If they don’t, he’ll be consigned to the dustbin of history right now.

Then again, given how genuinely shocked some of these people appeared, it’s possible that he believed that he and his Fox cohorts could get things turned around. Also, he likely didn’t know how bad the Romney campaign would fuck up basics like GOTV. Maybe that’s why he believed he was right, despite the facts.

    1. If Morris comes out and admits he got it wrong, then he’s exposed for the know-nothing that he is. BUT, if he says he lied for the team, and that he knew all along that Romney was going down, then the gullible will still consider him to be a sage. And the gullible will still send him checks in exchange for his wisdom.

  2. Fox is not a news network.

You know what’s interesting? Throughout the election season the Fox polls were pretty much in sync, much more so than good old trusted Gallop in the final weeks, with the allegedly lame stream media polls at the same time their on air “talent” was pushing the position that all the polls showing Obama close or ahead by small margins were biased and wrong.  And then there was the famous visit to their own numbers guys instigated by Rove’s rage at Fox joining other networks in calling Ohio for Obama during which their geeks explained, you know, reality.

So it’s not that they don’t know what’s real and what’s not. It’s just that the reality based world isn’t what their viewers tune in for. They tune in for clowns like Morris and the alternate reality they want so desperately to believe in.

Already, after the supposedly stunning, who saw this coming debacle, they’re at it again with the theory that the timing of the Petraeus scandal is an Obama plot to keep him from testifying about Benghazi. Turns out Petraeus is going to be testifying after all. Turns out that just because he resigned doesn’t mean he can’t be called to testify about things that happened during his tenure. Who knew? The same people responsible for relatively decent polling and accurate election night tracking at Fox, no doubt.

But that’s not what Fox viewers want to hear so that’s not what the on air “talent” sells.

And I’m sure my cousin still thinks the only place to get the real news is Fox and she’s still faithfully watching Fox and only Fox and buying all the excuses about the election. And there are enough people like her to keep Fox ratings high and make everyone plenty of money no matter who wins elections.
