Sen. Mark Udall Kicks Off 2014 Re-Election Campaign

  • by: Colorado Pols

From Sen. Mark Udall’s announcement email to supporters today:

Colorado has been my home for over 40 years, and for almost all of those it’s been my job – one way or another – to protect the things I love about our great state: our stunning landscapes and open spaces, the customs and communities that enrich our lives, and the values of honesty, hard work, and respect that bind those communities together.

I’m incredibly privileged to serve as your United States Senator. With your help, I’ve been a voice for job growth and fiscal responsibility in Washington, ended the military’s discriminatory Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy, and championed the new energy economy.

In short, though it may seem hard to believe, we have spread some Colorado common sense in Washington. And even though the partisan bickering back there can be downright frustrating, I’m determined to keep fighting for solutions to keep our country moving forward.

It is from my bedrock love for Colorado and its people that I am running for reelection, so that I can continue to use my seat in the U.S. Senate to safeguard these things that I know we all care about.

Sen. Udall begins his 2014 re-election campaign as the heavy favorite. Potential GOP challengers include former Rep. Bob Beauprez and current Rep. Mike Coffman, in addition to less-likely mentions like Rep. Cory Gardner and Attorney General John Suthers.

  1. I’ve already received my first please support  me e-mail today. Now if only somebody would ask for my support in CD6.  Are you listening, Andrew?  All is forgiven if you’ll just make a damn decision.

  2. Beauprez has, of course, nothing to lose but Coffman is not exactly a risk taker, and is unlikely to move against Udall.  Suthers, term-limited and, by GOP standards, reasonably moderate, would probably be a formidable challenger.   But I don’t know if the Tea Party would back anyone not certifiably insane.

    1. Coffman not a Risk Taker?  What about when he ran for Congress for the first time and took a risk against a name like Armstrong that comes with lots of dollars and a bunch of other people too?????

      1. but whatzizname Armstrong, son of the powerhouse.  as SOS, Coffman was the clear favorite in the primary and a shoo-in if nominated.   He’s still favored as the incumbent, albeit in a more balanced district, and I would be very surprised if he ran for the Senate.

  3. as a Senator and House member.

On second thought, Wayne “Glue Factory” Allard probably has more to show for his time in Washington and that mostly consists of breathing oxygen at a very slow rate.

The really scintillating one that comes to mind is getting the interior of Rocky Mountain National Park declared a Wilderness Area.  Whoa brother.  Be still my beating heart.  What a master legislator.

    1. Cut the guy a bit of slack. Colorado is still a very purple state. Under those circumstances if a vote for our side on important issues is what we get that is pretty damn good in my eyes.  If you are not elected you can not govern at all.

      1. The ole “it could be worse” argument.

It could also be better if we had some one who actually did something with their time other than climb the political ladder. Just sayin
