    1. A number of those voting against the Santos resolution a couple of weeks ago said it was premature, that “regular order” ought to be followed in allowing the Ethics Committee to issue a report.

The report is, as best I can tell from coverage, thorough and unsparing.  It confirms events referred to in the indictments, broadens to find new anecdotes, and clarifies that in the process of investigation, Rep. Santos did not cooperate and, when there was any sort of cooperation, there were misrepresentations.

      AP summarize:

The panel said that Santos knowingly caused his campaign committee to file false or incomplete reports with the Federal Election Commission; used campaign funds for personal purposes; and engaged in violations of the Ethics in Government Act as it relates to financial disclosure statements filed with the House.

The ethics panel’s report also detailed Santos’ lack of cooperation with its investigation and how he “evaded” straightforward requests for information.

The information that he did provide, according to the committee, “included material misstatements that further advanced falsehoods he made during his 2022 campaign.”

      1. They are already moving the finish line down the road a bit more.

Warren Davidson (R-OH) explained his vote last time as being the result of allowing the process with the ethics committee to play out. When interview a few minutes ago, he said he wanted to read the report, but he was still concerned about due process and lack of a trial.

These people equate their jobs with a criminal prosecution. Getting expelled is basically getting fired by the HR Department at your place of employment. There is no requirement of proof beyond a reasonable doubt or presumption of innocence.

This is all about one thing:  not reducing Matt Gaetz' magic number for blowing things up from four to three.

    2. Another year of Lyin' Santos is too much. Also, I vote to strike the terms Misrepresentation, disinformation, and Misstatements, which are apparently now trigger words offending MAGAs.

So we'll just call these "lies" from now on, K?

  1. Trump may need to have a competency hearing to determine if he is capable of assisting with his own defense.  Here is Tom the Dancing Bug's take on his mental state.

  2. In one of the silliest uses of the First Amendment ever, The Colorado Sun's Sandra Fish reports

Former Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters filed a federal lawsuit Tuesday seeking to halt local, state and federal criminal investigations and prosecutions against her in a security breach of her county’s election system in 2021.

The 43-page lawsuit was filed against U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland, Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold and Mesa County District Attorney Daniel Rubenstein. It claims their continued investigations into Peters violate her constitutional rights to free speech, freedom of association and right to petition the government to redress her grievances.
