Happy Birthday to Us: Colorado Pols is 19 Years Old!!!

  • by: Colorado Pols
Look, it’s Woody!

On this day in 2004, Colorado Pols first emerged from the Internet tubes and said hello to the world.

This is our last year as a teenager, so please be gentle in what is a very formative time in the life of a political website.

In lieu of gifts, please send cash.

Lots of cash.

  1. What's it like to have a Festivus birthday? Though you might not get the gifts you're after, Alva, thanks as always for providing such a wonderful venue for the Airing of Grievances, and may you enjoy the Festivus Miracle you've always deserved!

    1. A toast to this merry band of off beat journalists. The new look is getting up to speed just in time for the next tumutulous election. Congratulations on an outtanding website for people of all political persuasions.

  2. I almost yearn for the days of Sybil and Ruthie!  Now we're stuck with this Bimbo.  I thought she was an originalist?

Lauren Boebert Issues Wolf Warning to Colorado Hunters

However, Boebert, who represents Colorado's 3rd Congressional District in the House of Representatives, hit out at the program on X, formerly Twitter. The GOP firebrand wrote: "Today, Colorado becomes the first state in the country to reintroduce gray wolves, despite rural America heavily opposing this measure. This ill-advised decision puts ranchers and farmers' livestock at risk.

    1. What sort of risk?

Conflicts between wolves and livestock are “exceedingly rare,” Ryan Sedgeley, southern Rockies representative for the Endangered Species Coalition, wrote in an emailed statement. “There is expertise and resources on the ground ready to minimize conflict. And the Colorado General Assembly has put money aside for compensation.”….

CPW said it would reimburse ranchers up to $15,000 for every animal killed by wolves.

Now, I'm not REAL good with animal husbandry … but I doubt there are too many animals on Colorado farms and ranches that would sell on an open market for $15,000.   Colorado Sun's series on "it's expensive to …" looked at ranching, and said

Cost and Return Estimates from the USDA show that Colorado ranchers lost money per cow in 2022. Their revenue per cow averaged $872, but their average operating expenses to raise that cow to market were $972, according to Daniel Mooney, assistant professor of agricultural and resource economics at Colorado State University.

Almost seems like a rancher could make a fair profit by attracting wolves ….

      1. Indeed (I feel like I’m obligated to channel V!) At  $15k a pop one could only dream of having their entire herd eaten by wolves.  Once again it’s the challenging concept of “math” that trips them up.
