Maybe the worm would eat away a bad part of their personality. Anyone who would kill a dog rather then take it to a shelter doesn’t have any “good” tucked away somewhere.
The worm likely was a type looking for its usual diet of pig — and the usual progression of such a worm inside a brain is limited eating, death, and then being surrounded by a cyst.
All in all, it seems like most of us prefer damage from a worm (and possibly, damage from mercury poisoning) over the free choice of dealing with a puppy by shooting it (and then shooting a goat, for good measure, and proving to be incompetent at shooting so there was a need for a second shot on the goat).
This is the definition of a sadistic choice. And after reading JiD’s comment, I went with worm brain.
I know, right? It must have done something for her to kill the dog…she wanted more. It is a good thing none of the kids were in the yard.
