We were admittedly surprised in early April when Danny Moore decided to run for a State House seat in HD-37. We’re slightly less surprised that Moore has decided not to continue forward with that quest.
According to the Colorado Secretary of State’s TRACER website, Moore terminated his State House committee on Monday after spending a few hundred bucks and raising no dollars:
Moore popped onto the Colorado political scene in 2021 when he was removed as the Chairman of the Congressional Redistricting Committee because of his undisclosed support for the idea that the 2020 election was stolen from Donald Trump. One year later, Republican gubernatorial nominee Heidi Ganahl inexplicably selected Moore to be her running mate and Lieutenant Governor nominee during an event at which they refused to speak to the media. Things went predictably downhill from there, culminating in a nearly 20-point loss to incumbent Gov. Jared Polis in November 2022.
It never made much sense that Moore would be interested in serving in a Republican House caucus full of outright lunatics such as Rep. Scott “There is No” Bottoms, “Dildo” DeGraaf, and Brandi Bradley. Had we been paying closer attention, it was a giveaway that Moore wasn’t even attempting to raise money for his campaign against Democrat Chad Clifford, who joined the legislature via vacancy committee last December.
Running for a State House seat where the best-case scenario was banging your head against the wall as a member of a micro-minority was never a great idea. Moore was also likely headed for another November loss, which would have been devastating to whatever future political ambitions he still maintains.
Perhaps Moore realized this in April and was just waiting for the Primary Election to end so that Republicans could more easily select his replacement. Barring the sudden interest by a wealthy Republican candidate, HD-37 will likely be scratched off the list by both parties as even a small target — clearing the way for Clifford to win a full term in office.
