  1. Uh-oh, the NYT editorial board is trying to at least appear fair and balanced! Today's opinion calls FDFQ "unfit to lead."

Mr. Trump has shown a character unworthy of the responsibilities of the presidency. He has demonstrated an utter lack of respect for the Constitution, the rule of law and the American people. Instead of a cogent vision for the country’s future, Mr. Trump is animated by a thirst for political power: to use the levers of government to advance his interests, satisfy his impulses and exact retribution against those who he thinks have wronged him.

    1. Yep, they should have led with this weeks (months) ago.  Maybe they'll have the balls to have their pundits pick up the theme and continue this story line for the next four months.  But other media need to also pick up the drumbeat warning voters to not be fooled.

Election Day is less than four months away. The case against Mr. Trump is extensive, and this board urges Americans to perform a simple act of civic duty in an election year: Listen to what Mr. Trump is saying, pay attention to what he did as president and allow yourself to truly inhabit what he has promised to do if returned to office.

Voters frustrated by inflation and immigration or attracted by the force of Mr. Trump’s personality should pause and take note of his words and promises. They have little to do with unity and healing and a lot to do with making the divisions and anger in our society wider and more intense than they already are.

The Republican Party is making its choice next week; soon all Americans will be able to make their own choice. What would Mr. Trump do in a second term? He has told Americans who he is and shown them what kind of leader he would be.

When someone fails so many foundational tests, you don’t give him the most important job in the world.

        1. Well his publicists and agents called him sexy and good actor but opinions.

I would think it's all related to his wife and wanting revenge for Biden shooting down her ICC warrants idea for Israel and Palestine.

          So no movies anyone watched.

    1. She got another owie today.  What was that about Johnson, carrots?

House Democrats, with a handful of Republicans, just defeated a GOP effort to hold AG Merrick Garland in inherent contempt. The vote was 204-210.

  2. By contrast, Dave Williams is a piker:  Republican / Conservative politician in Illinois showed what COULD be done.

A former Illinois state senator and candidate for governor was sentenced Wednesday in federal court to 3 1/2 years in prison after pleading guilty to fraudulent use of campaign funds, money laundering and tax evasion.

U.S. District Court Judge Colleen Lawless, who also ordered William “Sam” McCann to pay $684,000 in restitution, noted during sentencing that McCann continued to siphon campaign money for personal use even after federal authorities confronted him. And she said he fraudulently claimed that he was physically and mentally unable to stand trial during a bizarre series of delays leading up to his February bench trial.

McCann, 54, who declared “God’s got this” after firing his attorneys in 2023 and announcing that he would represent himself, later capitulated and started trial with new representation before throwing in the towel on the third day of testimony. He entered a no-strings open guilty plea to seven counts of wire fraud and one count each of money laundering and tax evasion. He faced up to 20 years in prison for each count of fraud and money laundering alone.

A state senator from 2011 to 2019, McCann formed the Conservative Party of Illinois in a 2018 bid for governor. His candidacy drew $3 million in contributions from a labor union which considered him a worker-friendly “lunch-pail Republican.”

  3. So… should Biden withdraw? I think he's clearly no longer up to the job of President either mentally or physically (age is a cruel mistress) but I'll take Biden in a coma over Trump.

The question is – who has a better shot against Trump? Biden or anyone else? And while "anyone" polls real good, once it's "someone", then those polling numbers drop.

    1. The debate has ZERO effect on the electorate

      Bed-wetters on the other hand…

I don’t think we saw evidence that Biden can’t compete or do the job.
I did hear Republican shill and sports guy Dave Portnoy said “Biden is a vegetable and has been from day one”. Okay he’s a vegetable which leads one to the question how did Biden get all those Republicans to follow along? He got infrastructure full of money and green new deal horrors that raped Republican men, threw their women out of sports, and trans their kids to do it.
If Biden is a vegetable then what does that make Republicans for getting outflanked? Is that using too much of the rhetoric then why did Biden get all of his CRs? Shouldn’t McCarthy and Johnson been able to out think a carrot?

      1. The Republican shilling here is a take on the classic stance of hate groups that is so dumb but also amazingly so effective.

"Those [people] are dumb, lazy and ineffective. Also those [people] are part of a vast, secretive conspiracy to ruin our lives and it will work unless we stop the [people] by giving us power and control over your lives!"

Replace [people] with any group to summarize talking points of any hate group. In this case, it's "Biden people" and "Democrats" but historically it's been "Jews" and "gays".

It's the same bad faith argument, just retread with different targets.

    2. Fair rhetorical questions, but did you ask yourself those questions before writing he should withdraw and Kamala had a better chance? (the internet is forever)

      1. Anyone who makes a decision and then refuses to reconsider it when hearing additional data is an idiot. (Not that reconsidering means one is not an idiot, it's a nevessary but not suffucient requirement.)

I do think it's best if Biden withdraws. But I defer to the elected Democrats who have a much better political judgment to figure out what our best avenue is.

  4. Reading this article (https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2024/07/11/biden-age-conservatives-conspiracy-00167438), I had 2 things strike me about Trump's GOP:

They think the only way to not conspire with someone is to hate them.

Trump hates "mainstream media" (whatever that is anymore), so he can't be consipiring with them. But Biden doesn't hate them which OBVIOUSLY  means Biden is conspiring with them.

Is there a subject where this conspiracy/hate belief is not true for the GOP? I can't think of one.

Their most virulent bad-faith attacks are clearly projection of their wishes.

In this article, Stephen Miller, who is expected to assume a senior position in a possible second Trump White House:

    > “Anybody who’s anybody in the Democratic Party participated in, knew of and covered up Biden’s cognitive dysfunction while allowing secret unnamed staffers to run the country.”

FFS! Covering up for a President's "…cognitive dysfunction while allowing secret unnamed staffers to run the country." is honestly one of the best summaries I've seen yet of the Heritage Foundation's Project 2025!!

  5. For anyone (like me) that doesn't have the patience to wade through all 900 pages of Project 2025, here is a handy pocket guide to what it means:

What Is Project 2025, and Why Is Trump Disavowing It?

“Project 2025 should scare every single American,” Mr. Biden said in a statement. “It would give Trump limitless power over our daily lives.”

    Another great resource:

Late last month, John Oliver, the host of “Last Week Tonight,” dedicated a nearly 30-minute segment to criticizing Project 2025 and dissecting its dangers; it received over seven million views on YouTube.

  6. A few hours later, maybe because of time zones or the laid-back Cali style, but the LA Times has weighed in more or less like the NYT. Big Media might be doing some self-reflection about the consequences of its disproportionate scrutiny over the wrong candidate!

…a self-aggrandizing felon and twice-impeached election-denier. Trump fomented the Jan. 6 insurrection, shows contempt for the rule of law and shamelessly lies in pursuit of more power. He’s an authoritarian who admires murderous despots, wants to jail his political enemies and has publicly flirted with declaring himself a dictator on his first day back in office.

    https://www.latimes.com/opinion/story/2024-07-11/la-trump-unfit-for-office-biden-election

  7. The howler monkeys at the Heritage Foundation are pre-emptively declaring the coming November election illegitimate.  I hope their conference rooms have padded walls.  I'd hate for them to hurt themselves as they fling poo all over the walls!

Trump allies at Heritage declare 2024 election illegitimate in advance

Barbra Streisand kidnapped by Hamas. Antifa-BLM protesters taking over a migrant detention facility. The FBI arresting Donald Trump two days after winning the election.

These were among the far-fetched scenarios imagined by a simulation of threats to the 2024 election showcased on Thursday by the right-wing Heritage Foundation. The presentation, delivered at the foundation’s Washington headquarters, stated as a given that the Biden administration was already engaged in a sweeping conspiracy to use multiple forms of federal power to influence the presidential election. It did not supply any evidence.

If they're right, I suppose Trump should just concede now.  Who needs an election if you believe you've already lost?

These are the people that want to define and control our future?  I guess we could thank Trump for ripping the bandage off this festering wound and expose it to light!
