Gabe-ish Evans: Yazmin? Yadira? Whatever

  • by: Colorado Pols

The Republican nominee for Congress in CO-08, State Rep. Gabe Evans, has earned the nickname “Gabe-ish” for his propensity to answer important questions with an “-ish” at the end.

That moniker turns out to have been a pretty accurate description of the Evans campaign in general as he has stumbled around blindly and struggled to moderate his profile following his June Primary victory over Republican Janak Joshi. Gabe-ish tends to do a lot of things in a very half-assed manner, including this attempt to attack his Democratic opponent on Facebook without bothering to check IF HE WAS EVEN LINKING TO THE CORRECT PERSON:

“Yazmin for Colorado” is Yazmin Navarro, a candidate for State School Board in the eighth congressional district. Congresswoman Yadira Caraveo is the candidate Evans is facing in November. Yes, they are both Latina women running for elected office in the eighth district. Yes, they both have first names that begin with the letter ‘Y.’ No, they are not the same person.

What Evans was trying to do with the content of this post was to distract from the fact that Caraveo broke ranks with Democrats today on a non-binding resolution stating that Vice President Kamala Harris hasn’t done enough to secure the U.S. border with Mexico. Caraveo later explained that vote in a statement reported by Caitlyn Kim of Colorado Public Radio.

Today’s resolution was an obvious set-up vote intended to get Democrats on the record about immigration policy under the Biden administration. Whether or not you agree with her decision, Caraveo didn’t take the bait and instead voted with Republicans. This meant that Evans couldn’t run with a likely pre-planned attack and had to pivot to something different…about somebody different.

It was, in short, a very “Gabe-ish” thing to do.
