U.S. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) is coming to Larimer County next Friday to headline a fundraiser for state Rep. Gabe Evans.

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson

Colorado’s recently created Eighth Congressional District, currently represented by Democrat Yadira Caraveo, is considered one of the most competitive in the nation. Former U.S. Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) and state Sen. Barb Kirkmeyer (R-Weld) are currently the only co-hosts of the breakfast event taking place somewhere in Loveland, which costs a minimum of $500 per ticket, according to a press release from the Evans campaign.

Johnson’s visit will mark the second fundraising trip to Colorado by a top Republican in less than a week. Donald Trump is traveling to Aspen this weekend for a Saturday fundraiser in the swanky mountain town with Larry Mizel and other high-dollar donors.

Johnson, arguably the most conservative legislator to ever hold the gavel, was little known outside his home state of Louisiana before taking over following Kevin McCarthy’s ouster.

He refuses to say that President Biden won the 2020 election, and is perhaps best known for pushing a legal challenge to the results of the last presidential contest.

Likewise, Evans won’t say the 2020 election was legitimate. Asked at a GOP panel discussion in January if the election was stolen from Trump, he answered “No-ish.” Asked again at the “Republican Rumble” debate in June, Evans doubled down on the denialism, saying “those aren’t yes-no questions.”
