Local GOP Fundraiser Packs Both Heat And Meat

‘Tis the season for fundraisers by party organizations great and small, and without much help expected from the internally riven and cash-starved Colorado Republican Party, the Montezuma County GOP is getting creative with their gimmicks to coax open the wallets of the party faithful. Or maybe you won’t find it creative at all, but at least…appetizing?

Maybe not that either:

First of all, is this a fundraiser or a drug cartel mule recruitment drive? The latter would explain giving someone a pistol and the address of some unknown body’s condo in Peru, which sounds like a movie plot. But we have more questions about the “freezer with 75 pounds of ground beef” being raffled off. There is the one big question, where did they get 75 pounds of ground beef and how do we know for sure it’s beef, but also all the other good questions like how old the freezer containing the alleged beef is, how long the beef has been in the freezer, and what the sell by date of the alleged beef was before it went in the freezer. All these unanswered questions are good reasons to buy your meat in a grocery store. With Lauren Boebert’s BBQ truck out of business, there’s just not a strong market for unregulated meat on the Western Slope.

In general, we think a general rule of don’t eat raffled-off meat is a good rule. You don’t know where it’s been.

  1. I’m sure there’s a unifying theme they had in mind when the Montezuma GOP brainstormed and had the idea to put together a Peruvian condo, a gun, and a freezer full of meat. OK, I’m not so sure.
