UPDATE #2: It’s been a long road from Mar-a-Lago to locked up for ex-Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters:
At Mar-a-Lago in 2022, Trump called Tina Peters a “rock star,” praised her work investigating his false election claims, and said he would look at endorsing her.
Peters was just sentenced to 9 years in prison for illegally hacking voting systems.

UPDATE: Colorado Public Radio:
Ahead of sentencing, Peters asked 21st Judicial District Judge Matthew Barrett for probation. She said she recognized the jury’s decision but that the jury wasn’t allowed to hear other evidence she wanted to present. That evidence was largely tied to conspiracies about Dominion Voting Machines, which were ruled inadmissible.
As he handed down the sentence, Barrett said Peters is privileged compared to the usual defendants he sees, and that she had not shown remorse. He preceded his sentence with a blistering critique of her actions and attitude, calling her an attention-seeking charlatan peddling snake oil “time and time again.”
“I’m convinced you would do it all over again if you could,” Barrett said. “You’re as defiant a defendant as this court has seen.” [Pols emphasis]

That’s the live word from the sentencing hearing just concluded: former Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters, convicted in August on 7 counts including official misconduct, attempting to influence a public servant, and conspiracy to commit criminal impersonation stemming from a failed attempt to supply evidence that the 2020 presidential election was compromised, was sentenced today to a total of 9 years in prison.
We’ll update shortly with coverage.

That's real.
Any way the court can legitimately deny bail while the appeal is pending? That P.O.S. needs some time in the hoosegow right the hell now.
The appeal bond was denied and Peters was taken into custody.
That’s (deservedly) harsh! Hope she at least was allowed to bring along her MyPillow??
Love that he ignored the prosecution recommendation and went 2x more time behind bars. She deserves every minute of that time.
There's nothing more grating than hyper entitled "rules are for everyone else" people like Tina. She does deserve every minute.
More importantly, it sends a signal to other Trump-cult election officials that criminality in service of their orange idol won't be tolerated. Georgia Election Board members, take note!
It's a great example of both specific and general deterrence. Criminal Law 101.
FA:FO
As I said in an earlier thread, I cannot decide if it more horrifying when they pretend to believe this stuff, or when they actually believe it. She seems to be riding this self-righteous paranoid delusion all the way to jail.
Yep. About the biggest FAFO I can imagine.
Now let’s have FAFO parties for the others, Trump, Giuliani, Bannon, Cheseboro and the CU embarrassment, John Eastman.
(Incidentally, the Conservative diversity seat still exists at CU. No embarrassment, no shame, just wipe off the stain.)
Here's the successor to Eastman at CU

That there is what we call the tell.
If the public won’t buy conservatism in the free marketplace of ideas, we’ll get the government to cram it down their throats. EAIAC.
CPR: So, Eastman used the CU Conservative Scholar Chair as a launching point to lead a coup attempt.
Deneen: Indeed, I think the right can learn something from that.
CPR: What can the right learn from that?
Deneen: Next time, get better lawyers.
What ever happened to the house Tina Peters stole from her husband?
Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.
Someone hide the ketchup bottles at Mar-a-lago. He does not give two shits about Peters, but it has to cross his mind, if she can go to prison for 9 years, is he going to get, in effect, a life sentence? If he loses the election, I think he will get sentenced to jail time, and the only thing that will save him are Jerry Ford style pardons (from Harris on the federal charges and applicable Govs on the state charges), and those are obviously not guaranteed.
If stupid was against the law, Tina would be serving a life sentence. Oh wait, she is!
Good article on this:

I had forgotten some of the crazier details
Wow, I just listened to like a 12-minute recording of what the judge told Peters before sentencing. It was the textbook definition of stern admonishment. I can only hope it sent a warning to others who want to screw around with elections.
Just listened to it as well with my wife. That was brutal.
But not unwarranted.
The judge, throughout, appeared unmoved by Peters' personal relationship with Jesus and her apparent channeling of Joan of Arc. I had suggested a 10 year sentence a couple of weeks ago, so I'm down with it. At her age, it isn't a life sentence, but it might get her attention…and that of others who should note this outcome.
.
Yep. Failure to accept responsibility and show some level of contrition justifies a longer sentence as a specific deterrent to the individual defendant. She done found out!
I'm glad to see Peters being held accountable for her actions by being sent to jail. She has had ample opportunity to admit that she was wrong, admit fault or at the very least apologize and show some remorse for breaking laws. "…as defiant a defendant as this court has ever seen…" about sums it up.
I'm proud to be a Coloradan today! Correct verdict, precise and fair sentencing.
