One Week Out, Colorado GOP is STILL Focused on Infighting

Colorado GOP chairman Dave Williams (right) posing with that one guy.

First, the good news if you are a supporter of the Colorado Republican Party: At least they aren’t talking this week about furries or transgender surgeries performed by the school principal.

And now, the predictable bad news: The Colorado GOP is still laser-focused on internal grudges.

The latest Colorado GOP newsletter/call to action out this morning is tangentially about the State Republican Party’s opposition to Proposition 131, the ballot measure seeking to change Colorado’s election system to an “open primary” process and a four-candidate runoff in a General Election. But the newsletter is mostly about hating on former State Republican Party Chairman Dick Wadhams, who has long been a vocal critic of current State GOP Chair Dave Williams.

“Don’t be a Dick…Wadhams” is not a terrible opening line overall, but the rest of this newsletter is silly talk.

Only a corrupt and morally bankrupted [sic] person like Dick would join with Jared Polis to pitch you on the idea of changing our election process to mirror that of California where, more often than not, your only “choices” will be wealthy Democrats on the general election ballot while ensuring no Republican advances to the final round in November.

We shouldn’t be surprised though. Remember, Dick is the failed former chairman of our State Party and is responsible for electing John Hickenlooper as Governor, losing many legislative seats, and nearly regulating us to minor party status.

Dick Wadhams

The first paragraph here is completely wrong: Proposition 131 is nothing like California’s two candidate runoff system. But this “newsletter” isn’t really about Prop. 131 anyway:

Dick also hates President Donald J. Trump, and for years has blamed President Trump for Dick’s own failures, and the failures of the establishment consultant class, that gets rich during campaign season but mostly lose to Democrats in the end.

What’s also important to know, is that corrupt people like Dick want you to believe that in order to win elections we need to abandon our christian conservative principles and avoid great candidates like President Trump.

Dick Wadhams wrote these words in an op-ed published just before President Trump visited Aurora, CO on October 11th:

“Having former President Donald Trump visit Aurora to tout his massive deportation agenda will only undermine Republican candidates in competitive races… a Trump visit will not crystalize the failed immigration policies of Biden-Harris. He will probably only repeat falsehoods about Aurora…”

Not only is Dick denying the blatant gang activity caused by illegal aliens in Aurora in such a way that would make CNN news anchors blush but he also thinks President Trump is going to harm our party nominees when the exact opposite is unfolding right before our eyes.

Actually, EVERYONE with even a modicum of responsibility is “denying the blatant gang activity caused by illegal aliens in Aurora” because IT ISN’T HAPPENING.

After a bit more drivel about Prop. 131, the newsletter closes with another grenade tossed at Wadhams:

We actually wrote about this Op-Ed supposedly penned by State Rep. Ken “Dildo” DeGraaf when it first appeared more than a year ago. We can’t say for sure that the DeGraaf Op-Ed was ghost-written by Williams himself, but let’s just say we’d wager a sizable amount of money on that speculation. Wadhams himself told Peter Boyles that he thought Williams was the real author.

So why is Williams going so hard after Wadhams NOW, with just one week left in the 2024 election? Perhaps Williams feels comfortable in sticking with the infighting theme after the Colorado GOP did a thing for a candidate, but the truth is likely as simple as it’s been since Williams was elected State Party Chairman in March 2023: Directing the State GOP was always about giving Williams a platform for attacking his enemies, assisting his failed campaign in CO-05, and making money for himself. Actually winning elections would have been just a nice side note.

All of this puts Republicans in a weird spot heading into Election Day. Williams will take credit for any Republican success at the ballot box, which could help him win another term as State Party Chairman in 2025. If Republicans fail to gain significant ground in 2024, he’ll blame “establishment” Republicans like Wadhams and use that frame to initiate a full-scale RINO purge and…seek another term as State Party Chairman in 2025.

None of this makes any sense, of course, but logic was abandoned long ago when the Colorado GOP turned over its party to the MAGA patrol.

  1. If Dick Wadhams is the failed former chairman of the Colorado Republican party and was responsible for nearly relegating Republicans to minor party status, then Dave Williams is the future failed former chairman of the Colorado Republican party and will have been resposible for completely relegating Republicans to uber minor party status.

    Hold my beer…
