  1. We'll see soon if this tweet becomes part of JP's State of the State address:

If it’s the choice of the people of Greenland to join the greatest country on earth, I would welcome them as our 53rd state, right after we admit Puerto Rico and Washington DC as states.

    1. Trump doesn't want to give statehood or full citizenship to the people of Greenland — he just wants to "own" it and the approximately 56,699 people who live there. And of course, the mineral resources that are likely there (but undeveloped).

Going to be interesting if Trump manages to twist things enough that the Danes choose to end US military access to the base (formerly Thule) and a training camp for NY National Guard (which "trains" as it provides logistics to scientific researchers in the North).

  2. WOTD: "Moron Premium" (Paul Krugman).

Long-term interest rates have spiked since Trump won the election. He is promising to give huge tax breaks to the wealthy, and run up the deficit.

"Moron Premium as “the bond market [is] starting to suspect that Trump really is [the unleashed chaos monkey] who he seems to be”

  3. Trump is appealing the mere fact of his sentencing on Friday to the Supreme Court:

But Trump’s lawyer D. John Sauer told the justices that upon Trump’s return to the White House on Jan. 20, “he will be completely immune from all criminal process, state or federal.” That immunity, he said, should be extended to the transition period while Trump “engages in the extraordinarily demanding task of preparing to assume the Executive power of the United States.”

If the Trump Stooges on the Supreme Court agree with his attorney, then I suppose Trump would gladly celebrate by going down to 5th Avenue and shooting a random tourist to demonstrate his God-like powers.
