  1. My good fortune to get to be the first to say………..

    Great job Democrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Very courageous.

Now finish it in the House.

I'm proud to be a Democrat in the State of Colorado. My vote helped secure a Majority.

Congratulations to everyone that did the same.

      1. Are people who have opposed civil unions because they want full marriage equality hateful bigots?

No, Serenity, these people aren't bigots.  They have, however, fallen into the logical trap in which the best is the enemy of the good.  This is a step toward equality.  The final step will require amending the Colorado Constitution to eliminate the ban on same sex marriage  or a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that marriage inequality violates the equal protection cause of the first amendment.

        1. How about simply doing away with the concept of "marriage" under Colorado law?  Marriage is a religious tenet which never should have been enshrined in law.  How about eliminating 'marriage" under Colorado law and just defining the rights of two people who contract for a "civil union" which provides them rights under the law but does not have any religious conotation whatsoever?

          1. PS.  Congratulations to all for this hard fought victory.  Special congratulations to Ellen Roberts as the only member of the Republican caucus with any balls at all.

        2. I completely agree Voyageur.  I'm thrilled about this, though many years ago I did entertain the thought that civil unions maybe were not worth supporting because they didn't provide full equality.  I never ended up being opposed to them.

Anyway, I was mostly just being a contrarian and pointing out the exception to Aristotles statement that "every single person who opposed this, for ANY reason, is a hateful bigot. No exceptions."
