Who's running for what in the municipal election?

Because of my job, I live in something of a political vaccuum. But I am curious what people have heard about who is running for what this May.

There is already a thread about the Mayor’s race, but if accurate it will cause a game of musical chairs.

After the jump are my observations. I would like to hear others’ speculations.

Names being bandied about for mayor include several City Council Members: Linkhart, Boigan, Robb, Hancock, and Nevitt. If they were to all run this would free up both at-large city council seats as well districts 7 (S-Central), 10 (CapHill/Cherry creek), and 11 (NE).

There is also the Auditor’s office. Dennis Gallagher is getting a little long on the tooth. I wonder if he is up to another 4 years? If he does not run again, some of those City Council folks may go for that instead.

The other citywide office is County Clerk currently held by Stephanie O’Malley. She would be a shoe-in for re-election, but she lives in Council District 11, which will likely be open since Hancock is likely to run for Mayor. Does she want

There is another open council seat as Marcia Johnson (district 5) has announced her retirement.

And then there is Charlie Brown (District 6). I would be very surprised is there is not a serious challenge to him this year.

  1. I’m interested in your thoughts as to who the contenders are. Are sort of hatched now, Dan?  I used to be but am now officially no longer a second class citizen and can actually vote and everything!

    1. The jockeying for postion is going to take a while. I doubt serious contenders will not be clear until at least after the holidays.

If I had to guess now I would have to say Romer and Hancock with Linkhart and Boigon a close second.

Of course, there still may be some unknown candidates out there that take us by storm. Some people have said they want Stephanie O’Malley to run, and she could be a big gun with the Webb machine behind her.

      1. I haven’t heard anything about Gallagher.  Yeah, he’s a bit long of tooth but he still loves the game and he has a fine staff.  I assume he’ll go for anothyer term at which time, if memory serves, he’ll hit the three term limit.

        1. I have noticed in recent months that he is physically slowing down quite a bit. He may not be up for the mayoral thing at this point. But I bet he would be willing to go another round as Auditor. And you’re right, he only gets one more.

    2. If he is in the race (and I think he will be) you have to consider him to be seriously in the mix.

I know that many think that Romer is the front runner, but I always remember that Ari Zavaris was the front runner, and all but annointed Mayor in 2001, too.
