The new West Denver library should be named for Corky Gonzalez

Well known activists in the West and North sides of Denver already have started to organize, , but as a social justice activist, one cannot, and should not , deny that Corky Gonzalez did more to raise the consciousness of all people that have been too long oppressed in this state than any other person in the last 50 years. The facts of Colorado history demonstrate that more voting rights cases have been brought for suppressing Latino vote than any other.group. The history of lynchings in Colorado involved more Latino victims than any other group. Corky Gonzalez was a man that stood up to this environment and refused to yield to tactics designed to diminish his influence, and to defame his name. He deserves this honor. His literary accomplishments speak well to education, which the library represents. It would inspire a new generation to read,learn, and have access to the internet. It would generate benefits to our city and society that money cannot buy. Nothing promotes freedom more than education. Nothing promotes education more than a burning desire to read. I ask activists of all communities in Denver to support this cause. Flood the Mayor's office with letters and phone calls. Do the same to the Denver City Council. There is much to be said in the translation: the people united can never be defeated.

I would add that if this issue is ignored by the powers that be, I can guarantee that their will be consequnces in coming elections. As the largest minority group and groeing in the USA officials should think twice before dissing the Gonzalez family, and their greatest advocate in modern history.
