Will Tancredo's GOP allies, like Coffman, denounce Tancredo's anti-immigration views?

(How will the New Coffman® handle this? – promoted by Colorado Pols)

Now that former Congressman Tom Tancredo is officially running for governor, you wonder how many Republicans will go out of their way to denounce Tanc's anti-anti-anti (that's triple anti-) immigration views.

It's a question reporters should put to Republicans (why not denounce Tancredo on immigration?) not only because numerous Republicans are trying to cozy up to Hispanics (See Gardner, Coffman, Penry) but also because many leading Colorado Republicans endorsed Tancredo over the years.

As The Denver Post's Kurtis Lee tweeted this morning, Rep. Mike Coffman endorsed Tancredo in 2010.

To get an understanding of the bond between those two guys (which goes beyond the fact that Tancredo was anybody-but-Dan-Maes in 2010), watch Coffman praise Tancredo's true conservative values in this video. (Here Tancredo nominates Coffman.)

As you know if you follow Tancredo from microphone to microphone, Tancredo's true conservative values start with immigration, which still comes up in one of every ten of his breaths.

On Friday, Tancredo told KNUS' Steve Kelley, for example, that immigration reform is not only wrong but "impossible" to achieve. His solution, in a word, is e-verify, he told Kelley. Just make it impossible for employers to hire 'em.

Are Colorado Republicans ready to tell reporters how and why they part ways with Tancredo?

  1. Note to media on Coffman.  No enthusiastic supporter and endorser of the hate and fear mongering extremist Tancredo can possibly be considered a moderate.  Moderates don't go in for that kind of thing, OK?

  2. Tom the Tanchor Tancredo.  Maybe he can help the GOP lose a few seats.

Clearly that was before Chris Christie exposed himself as somewhat reasonable at least one time a RINO.

    1. Guilt?  By associating with the your ACP your gubernatorial candiate?  I thought that would be an 'endorsement'  you know, Rep. Mike Coffman PROUD to be a Tom Tancredo supporter!

    2. Nothing to do with guilt by association. It's not as if Tanc is his loony brother-in-law. Coffman chose to praise Tanc as a friend and ally. No one made Coffman go out of his way to endorse Tancredo. Since Tanc's nasty views, statements and associations with despicable groups, such as white supremacists and other racists and bigots, are very are well known it's perfectly legit to draw conclusions from Coffman's enthusiasm for and endorsement of Tancredo. Absolutely, perfectly, 100% legit.

    1. Thanks, Elliot. If I were Coffman, and I truly wanted to distance myself from Tanc, I'd have done it today. But it's never too late for a reporter to ask.

  3. Will Tancredo’s GOP allies, like Coffman, denounce Tancredo’s anti-immigration views?

    No.

Wink is as good as a nod, right? (nudge, nudge)

They may distance gently, but if you listen you will hear the whistle.
