Just a brief note for those who have been following the Brainard story in Grand Junction: Organizers have officially filed papers to form a committee to recall the City Council member.
The following was posted to a Facebook Page titled, Demand Rick Brainard's Resignation Grand Junction today:
"I'm pleased to announce No Brainard Recall Committee is accepting monetary donations at our local Rio Grande FCU, just across the street from the 749 Rood #B petition office location.

For those of us who reside outside of the Grand Junction area, what exactly has the Councilman done (or alleged to have done) that the proponents think warrants a recall?
That should be in the diary…
He pleaded guilty to beating his (then) girlfriend. But he's a solid vote for the Chamber of Commerce, so they are OK with it.
Thanks for the protocol reminder Urban Snowshoer and Club Twitty. Rick Brainard was part of a slate of candidates put forward by the Grand Junction Chamber of Commerce. Before he could be sworn in, he was arrested for domestic abuse. According to a police report he slapped his live-in girlfriend, giving her a black eye because she needed to shut up. This galvanized people in the community who find domestic abuse disgusting, resulting in multiple protests, both at city council meetings and in front of the Chamber, which has refused to condemn Brainard. Now there is an active recall movement. Just didn't have enough time to write all of that last night. Sorry, but thanks for asking.
and, importantly, he admitted to striking the woman "because she wouldn't shut her mouth" and pled guilty
