Doug Bruce's Manifesto

  • by: Danny the Red (hair)

( – promoted by Colorado Pols)

I almost created a sock puppet for this one: thought I would pose as a criminal psychologist.

Now to the good stuff

This comes from Bruce’s censure response found at http://www.douglasbruce.com/

I brought 4 dozen roses for staff members

Was it an episode of “The Bachelor”?

Are those the actions of a violent, angry, hateful, disruptive person?

No, but kicking someone is.

The tap on the knee…was not “violent” and was less disruptive than grabbing the camera

Yeah and punching someone is less disruptive than setting off a suicide bomb: both are violent.

had the photog been a plumber or a waiter, would this ever be an issue?

Is this guy serious? I would hate to be this guy’s plumber and if the guy had kicked me while I was waiting tables–he might of gotten a little “secret sauce”.

Much of the rest is him misrepresenting others positions–I think we should review every case he ever prosecuted his grip on the truth and reality is so tenuous.

He does make a couple of good points

Monday’s events were intensified by a month-long public disagreement between us on the term limits issue.

A disagreement he started by playing cute with the law.

When the date issue ended, the timing issue began, and I was accused of “vanity” and an “unprecedented” request to be sworn in during a meeting as 60 members had been.

Again a disagreement he started by asking for special treatment.

I also asked for 90 seconds to address the house, to defuse and relieve the tension and this negative build-up with some self-deprecating humor.  That was another way in which I tried to practice collegiality, and further show that I was not trying to be disruptive or demanding, but to demonstrate good will towards others.

Let’s analyze this

1. he demands time to explain how he is not demanding.

2. he want’s to do a stand up routine on the tax payers dime?  Comedy Works Tuesday night new talent night: You might be able to get a 2 minute set.

Then comes a rambling and confusing kitchen sink of Bruce gripes.

Then comes a personal ban on the Post and News.

Then Bruce has temerity (the balls if you will) to call for a change of house rules to prevent photographers from taking photos.  Does he not realize that the house has spoken?–his behavior was out of line, the media was not.

He then goes on to use the “others did worse” defense.  Some of the examples of behavior by members are worse, but none of the examples are of assaults on the house floor.  Some are actually protected speech.

He does include a couple of oddities

Last year, Governor Ritter violated House traditions and/or rules by crisscrossing the House Floor between seats and in the middle aisle

What? Was Ritter naked? I don’t even get this.  In Bruce land Kicking someone less than or equal to crisscrossing the house floor.

I had already decided I will never remove my coat, even when allowed….It was even a campaign promise of mine

But he never said anything about his pants! {rimshot} but seriously folks, what does this have to do with anything.  I know that when I am looking for campaign promises, I’m looking for fashion ones: that’s why I may support his fellow TABOR warrior Ali Hasan and his village people wardrobe.

Wow! Bruce has been a problem in this state for almost 20 years, but I never realized he was bat shit crazy.

  1. Infantile might be a better word.  His refusal to admit he’s done anything wrong is amazing.  My 11-year-old takes more responsibility for his actions than does Doug Bruce.

Most of Bruce’s manifesto is simply made up as far as I can tell.  He’s a walking persecution complex.  Someone stop him before he kicks again!

  2. I had already decided I will never remove my coat, even when allowed….It was even a campaign promise of mine

That was one of the laughable things about observing the legislature for me. When towards the end of the legislative session it would be announced on certain days, “The Coat Rule is relaxed.” Meaning men can remove their jackets.

The Coat Rule “relaxed”? As opposed to “tight-assed,” normally?

Keep your coat on, Doug. That’s the spirit.

    1. is just one of many House Rules.  The center aisle rule is that only legislators or the sgt. at arms are allowed in the center aisle.  It appears to be one that Rep. Bruce only glanced at while perusing his copy of the rules.  One he obviously did not read was the 10 minute speech rule.  The Speaker had to cut the Honorable Bruce off because he over ran his minutes while giving his rebuttal to being censured.

The coat rule does not mean very much right now. But, once spring arrives the warm outside tempatures translate in to high heat inside the chambers.

  3. The Bruce parts were very much like watching a train wreck…but of the Schadenfreude Express.  I mean, he’s so…so pathetic. He doesn’t get it, he never will. Dammit, I’m starting to feel sorry for him because he’s clearly defective in some crucial way, and it’s ruining all the fun I’ve been having seeing him roundly mocked.

Although I have to admit my pity recedes quite a distance as soon as he opens his mouth and starts to yak.

  4.    The Newspaper of Record has a story today about the Kicker and his Nudge.

Yet again we in Colorado are made to look like a bunch of wackos.

    1. I have ever seen of how New Yorkers and Beltway inhabitants view the U. S. was in the New Yorker magazine.  New York city, really Manhattan, was huge and detailed, D.C. was big and somewhat detailed.  Looking west the U. S. shrank to a tiny slice after the west bank of Manhattan and the west side of the Beltway.

We still are the wild west with cattle roaming along with the Plains Native Americans and  cowboys shooting up everybody, amongst the bordellos, and chugging wood burning locomotives, to those who have never been west of the Hudson or Arlington.  The question is how did the Honorable Bruce add to our glorious past/present with his defiant stance against reality.  I would not rate it up with the battle between Big Nose Kate and Mattie Silks, they shot the man they were fighting over, but in terms of politics in Colorado, a good place in the history books.

Because tourist money is so important to our great state, I think we should do everything we can to draw those curious to see the “real” wild west out here.  Even if it is based on violence in the Capitol.

  5. is this guy for real? This isn’t some sort of sick joke that Colorado Springs is playing on the rest of the state to make a point that Reagan-Republican-Libertarians like Bruce are in fact insane!

If it’s not a joke, one thing is certain, he’s the funniest person to ever be sworn into the Colorado Legislature.

The gift that keeps on giving…
