Schaffer gets White House boost

White House press secretary Dana Perino, who grew up in Colorado, will appear tonight at fundraiser for Republican U.S. Senate candidate Bob Schaffer.

A reception will be held at the home of Meg and Jamie Duke in Cherry Hills Village, followed by a 7 p.m. dinner at the Cherry Hills Country Club.

Perino’s appearance marks the third time in four months that someone from the White House has come to Colorado to help Schaffer raise money. President Bush was in Cherry Hills Village in January and Vice President Dick Cheney was in Grand Junction last month.

That distinction was not lost on Democrat Mark Udall, who faces Schaffer in November.

“Bob Schaffer’s agenda is all about continuing the policies of the Bush administration that have failed our families, our national security, and our economy,” said Udall’s campaign spokeswoman, Taylor West.

“It’s no wonder that President Bush, Dick Cheney, and now even their employees are doing everything they can to prop up his candidacy.”

Schaffer’s campaign manager, Dick Wadhams, said the Udall campaign “should be ashamed of themselves for attacking a Colorado woman who has distinguished herself as a spokeswoman for the president of the United States.

“I think she does an excellent job,” Wadhams said.

Sure Dick, she’s done a Heckuva job just like the rest of the Bush cronies.

  1. I trust that Dana Perino’s trip will be paid from her own pocket or from that of the Schaffer campaign…

    As to Perino herself, she’s learning, but she’s not nearly as fast on her feet as Tony Snow or W’s other press secretaries.

        On the day when CNN reports  Bush is the most unpopular president in modern history, sounds pretty tame to me.

        A CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Thursday indicates that 71 percent of the American public disapprove of how Bush his handling his job as president.

        “No president has ever had a higher disapproval rating in any CNN or Gallup poll; in fact, this is the first time that any president’s disapproval rating has cracked the 70 percent mark,” said CNN Polling Director Keating Holland.

         

  2. What ridiculous hyperbole. Of course, Udall’s not attacking Perino personally. He’s just making the self-evident point that for Bush, Cheney and Perino all to come out for private fundraisers for Schaffer – naturally, nothing where they might have to be subjected to the public at large or a whiff of an opposing viewpoint – Schaffer must obviously be seen as tied at the hip to the Bush Administration’s wonderfully successful policies.

    As for Perino: She’s an average to mediocre press secretary. Not Ron Ziegler sweaty-nervous bad, but with kind of a Dan Quayle “deer in the headlights” quality about her.

    And not even the worst press secretary in the world can actually cause innocent deaths through gross incompetence a la Rumsfeld, Cheney, Brownie, Chertoff, etc. etc.

      I came away unimpressed–she didn’t seem to know anything about anything.

      Even reading the Udall campaigns comments in a way most favorable to Wadhams point, I don’t get the “ashamed of themselves” line.

      After pimping for the sweatshop lobby and basically calling the Catholic arch diocese liars because they couldn’t show him a forced abortion, saying somebody should be ashamed of this takes balls so big I’m surprised Schaffer can walk.  

  3. Colorado homegirl does the repubs good and comes back to her old stompin’ ground.

    Plus, she’s hot. Every neocon good ‘ol boy in the Denver Metro Area will be flocking to Cherry Hills for a look-see at Bush’s booth bunny.  I bet she’ll be a helluva draw for Schaffer.

    Who says DC is Hollywood for ugly people?

    1. Not with that weird twitch that makes her look like either shes off her meds or tweaking on meth.

      However, conservatives think that female impersonator Mann Coulter is hot (love that adams apple) so I guess Dana is a step up.

        1. You have both class and intellect.

          Dana’s is what we used to call “Webb hot”.  Webb Institute was the engineering school I went to.  It was an engineering/naval architecture school that had 9 female students: 9.  If you didn’t have a hump or a moustache you were ahead of the game.

          I think judging “hotness” in washington is evaluated on the same scale.

    2. You hear that ladies? You don’t need the smarts to get ahead in this world, just tow the neo-con line and look HOT and you’ll be alright since you’re nothing more than a commodity to these guys.

      Now, YOU should be ashamed of yourself.
