Colorado Secretary of State Wayne Williams will be in North Kingstown, Rhode Island on Saturday to represent the state of Colorado at the "keel laying ceremony" for the USS Colorado attack submarine.
Yup.
It's a nice idea to have a Colorado elected official on-hand to help dedicate a submarine named Colorado, but why is Williams doing this? Thankfully, a press release from the Secretary of State's office explains:
As Colorado Secretary of State, Williams provided authority for the Navy to use the state seal as part of the keel laying ceremony for the USS Colorado.
Well, okay then.
Full press release after the jump…
Williams joins Navy ceremony beginning construction of attack submarine USS Colorado
DENVER, March 6, 2015 – Secretary of State Wayne Williams will represent the state of Colorado at the keel laying ceremony for the USS Colorado on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at the Quonset Point Facility in North Kingstown, Rhode Island.
A keel laying ceremony marks the official start of construction on a new ship. The ceremony will also be attended by the Secretary of the Navy, the governor of Rhode Island, and several members of Congress.
“It is a great honor to represent our state at the keel laying ceremony of the USS Colorado.” Williams remarked. “Coloradans are very proud of their state. It’s a place where people act boldly and achieve greatly. It’s exciting to know that Colorado’s name, and our values, will be carried around the world by such a magnificent submarine.”
When complete, the USS Colorado will be a high-tech attack submarine. It is the third Navy ship to bear the name Colorado. The first was an armored cruiser commissioned in 1905. During World War I, the vessel was renamed the Pueblo and used to transport soldiers and materials to England. The second USS Colorado was a battleship that took part in the invasion of Tarawa during World War II.
As Colorado Secretary of State, Williams provided authority for the Navy to use the state seal as part of the keel laying ceremony for the USS Colorado.

I hope they play the Village People's "In the Navy" at the keel-laying ceremony. I hope Wayne gets all his immunizations before he ventures into Rhode Island, one of bluest states in the country!
I think we should probably save that one . . .
. . . for the keel laying of the USS Klingenschmitt.
Perhaps Williams should have remembered his history when referencing the USS Pueblo. It is still under North Korean control. Once again, Williams is an idiot.

Well, you are probably right that Williams is an idiot, but you can't pin the reference to the Pueblo on him. The one mentioned in the presser was commissioned in 1905, and was likely a coal-burner. As with the Colorado, multiple ships sailed under the name Pueblo:
USS Pueblo may refer to:
Nil Sine Numine and full speed ahead.
There was a fictional USS Colorado in the short-lived ABC drama Last Resort in 2012. When the network pulled plug on the series after 13 episodes, they blew up the sub.
He’s surely an idiot, and Colorado escapes mention because Williams and Dipshit Gessler have so far been unsuccessful, but don’t forget what Republican SoS’s and Leg’s are doing around the country as one of their primary goals:
Zap, you’re right that we have to keep our eyes on voter suppression. On voter ID laws, I think we’re best off just conceding that people will need photo or state approved IDs to vote, and should concentrate our efforts as nationally active Democrats in helping voters to get the IDS.
In 2008 and 2012, OFA registered hundreds of thousands of voters. We need to repeat that in 2016, create agencies and mobilize an army of volunteers, community groups, faith groups, and paid staff to make voter registration (with acceptable IDs) happen.
I don’t think we’re fighting the best battle to win this war. Rest assured that Republicans will be leaving no rock unturned-over to get their base out and ballots turned in. We’ll just have to do a better job than ever before.
