3. Why can’t Republicans talk seriously about their policies and the details that “inform” their decisions?

   Ted Cruz, just joking:

   The Republican presidential primary has only just gotten going and already the candidates are sick and tired of gotcha questions from the media. You know, sneaky, unfair stuff like asking the candidates about their own words.Ted Cruz has had enough of this nonsense where people check to see if he’s telling the truth:

   Harwood: You’ve said a few things that don’t necessarily comport with the facts, like, “125,000 I.R.S. agents, send ’em to the border.” They’ve only got 25,000 agents or something like. You’ve talked about the job-killing nature of Obamacare. We’re adding jobs at a very healthy clip right now. Why shouldn’t somebody listen to you and say, “The guy’ll just say anything – doesn’t have to be true”?Cruz: There is a game that is played by left-wing editorial writers. It’s this new species of yellow journalism called politi-fact. Colloquially I was referring to all the employees as agents.

   That particular stat is in a joke I used. So, they’re literally fact-checking a joke. I say that explicitly tongue in cheek.

   Oh, see, colloquially I was using the scary-sounding term “agents” to stand in for agents, receptionists, clerical staff, janitors, paper pushers, and number crunchers, and it was all a joke anyway, so it’s illegitimate to point out that my innocent little joke making a serious political point was premised on misinformation.

   It’s a good strategy for wooing the Republican base, though—say all kinds of outrageous stuff, then insist it was all a joke anyway, so if reporters call you out on it, it’s yellow journalism by left-wing editorial writers. Cruz could never be held accountable for anything he says under this theory.

   It’s not just Cruz. It’s Limbaugh, Beck, Levin, not Rosen, because he has Zero sense of humor. It’s too many to name.

   Public service is serious business and an important feature of our society. Running government efficiently and effectively should be the highest priority.

   Republicans treat this as a joke, they constantly lie about government and its function. They distort government’s purposes to the benefit of the rich and powerful, and then are offended if you call them out. 

   I call the Bastards out, well, on a blog at least, and that’s what everyone should do in any way, every day, until the M*F*ers (and I do mean that literally) stop their sociopathic ways.

Sadly we’re in the post truth political environment where Cons can lie however they want, and if it fits a stereotype, like liberal environmentalists care more about fish then people it scores them points.  When you say they’re a bunch of brazen liars, they point to Hillary Clinton’s emails and say “see they’re all crooked.”  People are ignorant of facts and disengaged from politics because they think big money is playing both sides against them.

4. Amazing how CPols doesn’t give a crap about goings on in EPC and the Springs, like the runoff for mayor of Colorado Springs between a Lib and a Gop.

   Sure, Pols cares about the freaks who provide endless entertainment: Tabor Bruce, Chaps, many others from years past. But the political issues? Nary a peep.

   This place turns elections and the state’s most prominent political blog should turn some attention to its conservative stronghold.

   1. Good point but maybe it’s because the R will win, as would a piece of toast with an R appearing on it rather than the usual portrait of Jesus. Suthers got 46% to, I think, 23% for the runner up lib. In Colorado Springs. It’s pretty much just a formality now.

   2. Zappatero, I’m not sure what you mean by “a Lib.” Mary Lou Makepeace is a registered Republican, always has been. A progressive one, to be sure, on social issues, certainly compared to the establishment John Suthers. Definitely not a Libetarian. If you mean “Lib” as in liberal, well, she is a main line Republican of decades ago, which does make her more liberal than the current Republican Party. Of course, the position is nominally non-partisan—but even supposedly reasonable Republicans like former Rep. Mark Waller make it clear that “party matters” to them.

      You are right about the need for more coverage of EPC and the Springs.

5. On a different note, now Eric Cantor is all for government spending on science (of all things) not offset by cuts. I guess that makes him an ultra liberal now. Not to mention a washed up has been and why does the media suddenly care what the little turd thinks? If they want faux expertise on any subject, they already have McCain and Graham.

6. Surprising nobody anywhere:

   Douglas Bruce, the author of the Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights, has been ordered to appear Friday morning in Denver’s Lindsey-Flanigan Courthouse for a hearing about possible violations of his probation on a tax-evasion conviction.

   Read it here, kids, but don’t forget to de-bruce after!

   The money quote has to be:

   “I just don’t think … well, I’ll be quiet — I don’t want to upset the judge,” Bruce said.
