As the Denver Post’s Lynn Bartels reported Friday, one of the gaggle of Republican presidential hopefuls in Denver this weekend for the Western Conservative Summit, former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, was featured at a RealClearPolitics event at the Brown Palace:
Fiorina spoke at the Brown Palace in Denver at an event sponsored by RealClearPolitics. She also will address the Western Conservative Summit, which kicks off its three-day gathering in Denver on Friday. She received a warm reception — state Rep. Perry Buck, R-Windsor, cheered as Fiorina took the stage after being introduced by Carl Cannon, the Washington bureau chief for RealClearPolitics.
On the timely subject of marriage equality for LGBT Americans, the “moderate” Fiorina had this statement:
I support civil unions and I have for a very long time because I do not believe government can discriminate in any way. Everyone should be protected equally under the law. It’s why I provided benefits to same-sex couples way back in 1999 when I came to Hewlett Packard.
On the other hand, marriage means something very specific. I do not think it is the purview of five people on the Supreme court, unelected and unaccountable, to think in their hubris that they have the power to change that. I hope that after this decision we will focus on preserving and protecting religious liberty because there are millions of people who disagree with this decision. I’m one of those people who believes marriage is between a man and a woman. [Pols emphasis]
As if to reinforce the point, here’s what may go down as the defining image of Fiorina’s weekend in Denver:
Now folks, it’s not like we expect Republican candidates for President, or more appropriately their staff, to consult the Southern Poverty Law Center’s list of hate groups to necessarily know that this is Colorado Rep. Gordon “Dr. Chaps” Klingenschmitt. The same “Dr. Chaps” who has been made infamous in local, and sometimes national press with his SPLC-listed Pray In Jesus’ Name Youtube ministry, expounding on demon possessed-ness of President Barack Obama, the media, the gays, abortionists, and we’ve surely missed a few others. The same “Dr. Chaps” who said a sitting member of Congress wants to behead Christians ISIS-style, and who turns the lurid crime headlines of the day into “God’s wrath upon America.”
So in the future, maybe it would be, you know, smart for presidential candidates and their ever-watchful highly paid staff to screen this guy at the photo-ops. Right? Learn to know him the way we know him.
What’s that you say? Isn’t he an incumbent Colorado state representative?
The answer of course is yes, national spotlight–but that’s our problem.

She can do what everyone else does when they step in it. Wipe it off her shoe and move on.
They don't call the GOP, the Party of Hate® for no reason.
Well, maybe, this one: "Republican presidential candidates speaking in Denver this weekend uniformly criticized the state’s legalization of recreational marijuana"
or
"It's not about gay marriage, it's about outlawing Christianity. That's what's coming."
To hear theae nuts talk, you'd think that we were packing Coors Field with starving lions, waiting to toss the closest bible thumper in for dinner. They're either the villians or the victims, they can't find some middle balance where they can co-exist with people who don't share their screwed up beliefs.
We parishioners of the Denver Diocese (at least out east) got a full court Leviticus lecture this morning. Yes folks, we're in the end times; a permanent state of moral decay has descended upon us. The internal memo from Aquila to the parish priests following the SCOTUS decision must have been a hummer.
Reportedly the fight isn't over, it's just beginning. I'll look forward to the ending of this newest, manufactured War on (fill in the blank) – which I predict will look whole lot like Black Knight
#thanksobama
Apparently for conservative Christians the New Testament supersedes the Jewish Bible except for Leviticus. Or at least the parts they like and don't inconvenience them too much. Don't expect them to be calling for a ban on bacon any time soon.
As I imagine is a common exercise across rural America, there is a mass exodus from the church to the local diner where the Chriatians can participate in the local sport of bashing Obummer. I mentioned to the local restaurant host that from now on I want two buffet selections: one line that is Leviticus compliant and the other that will send these glutinous bastards straight to the gates of hell. & nbsp;
Jack Black (as HaySOOS):
"Well, the Bible says a lot of things…ya know?"
"Prop 8 – The Musical" starring Jack Black, John C. Reilly, and many more… from Funny Or Die
Priceless.
Bacon was banned in the Old Testament – you know, pigs can display split hooves like cows, but does not chew its cud, therefore making it NOT kosher.
But what do I know… maybe the bacon ban was overruled in the New Testament which I don't follow.
No blended fabrics? No shellfish? No pork? No men lying with men?
They're confused between outlawing something and refusing to make it the law of the land. And for those claiming churches will be forced to perform marriages against their beliefs that’s nonsense. Just because it's legal for a Jew to marry a Christian that has never meant that an orthodox rabbi has to do it. When I was young most rabbis, including all conservative rabbis, wouldn’t officiate at a mixed marriage. Now many will but don't have to. I don't know the Church position now but when I was a kid a Catholic could only marry a non-Catholic in the Church if there was a promise to bring up the kids Catholic. Once again, it was perfectly legal for Catholics to marry whomever they pleased and bring up the kids any way they want but nobody was forcing priests to do it.
In any case, the religious ceremony has always been entirely optional and never in itself created a marriage. Marriage has always been a civil, not religious institution in this country. You need the license and to file the paperwork. You have never needed a religious ceremony of any kind. That's your own private business. Still is. This is leaving aside common law marriages which are a mixed state by state bag.
That's the big lie. That marriage is a religious institution. It may also be that for you if you're religious but, under our law, it's a civil matter. Atheists married by a Justice of the Peace have always been on an equal legal footing and just as married as those married by clergy according to their religious beliefs. Period.
So the right of the citizens of a single state is sacrosanct when it comes to denying an immutable class a fundamental right but those same citizens should not be able to vote to expand the rights to include recreating through the use of marijuana. What is the response of those who believe the sky is falling when they are reminded their words echo those who said precisely the same thing when State bans on interracial marriage were declared unconstitutional?
Klingenschmitt makes a point of going to these events and interviewing or being photographed with as many candidates as possible for his "news" programs. He has interviewed Santorum, Cruz, Carson, and others. And no, I'm not linking to them.
It's part of why GK has no business having tax exempt status from the IRS – his programs are blatant political endorsements. It's no "church" – it's a Tea Party political forum. To complain, anyone can file a complaint form with the IRS. Form 13909 allows you to complain anonymously. For Klingenschmitt's "Persuade the World Ministries" 501c3 organization, the EIN# is 84-1523636, and the grounds for complaint should be "Organization is involved in a political campaign", via Klingenschmitt's youtube "church", the Pray in Jesus Name project. The IRS master file, shown on Guidestar, says that Persuade the World had $853,679 in income, close to what GK reported on a local talk radio show, although the 2013 990 return only shows 39,041 in income. Obviously, something's screwy.
The guidelines for receiving and keeping non-profit status are clear:
http://aclj.org/churches-organizations-/political-speech-non-profit-tax-issues
In exchange for the receipt of tax-exempt status, I.R.C. § 501(c)(3) absolutely prohibits churches and other tax-exempt organizations from campaigning for or against a candidate for public office. If a church participates or interferes, directly or indirectly, in any political campaign for or against any candidate for public office by publishing and distributing certain written material or making oral statements regarding the candidate, then a church can lose its tax-exempt status for violating the campaigning ban. I.R.C. § 1.501(c)(3)-1(c)(3)(iii). Quite simply courts have interpreted 501(c)(3) to ban any degree of participation or intervention in a campaign for public office. Ass’n of the Bar of N.Y. v. Comm'r of Internal Revenue, 858 F.2d 876, 879 (2d Cir. 1988).
So you admit that Klingenschmitt is the one pursuing them, not vice versa.
That makes this much less of a story…
How the hell is that?
GJK routinely pursues people for his "nonprofit, nonpartisan, religious news education program", PJIN news. But the story is that maybe these candidates should not allow themselves to be caught.
And I think the story should be that GJK's program is not a church, has no legit nonprofit purpose, but is instead a partisan exercise in Tea Party politics, explicitly to give good publicity to candidates GJK is in agreement with.
The IRS seems to have a problem with that, as well.
Maybe the locals could give visiting pols a little heads up on who to avoid.
Tip to prez candidates: avoid the Out-House Three……
Tancredo, Mizel, & Coffman appear to be keeping low profiles at the Western Conservative Summit, but Bob Beauprez wasn't shy:
Per Lynn Bartels blog Friday 6/26: I don't know if Bob B is slapping Hillary or trying to shut her up, but I find it offensive.
What more could you expect from that clown? I mean, the man is famous for his 2006 campaign ad in which he stood next to the ass of a horse. (And I'm not talking about his campaign posters featuring him standing with Janet Rowland.)
OTOH, I thought that if House had been successfully deposed, BWB might have been the compromise candidate for new state chair.
Congrat to Dr. Ben Carson! He makes a house call to the wing nut con fab in Colorado and wins the straw poll! Now if only be can displace the Donald who holds second place in the most GOP prez candidate poll in NH.
On the other hand, I don't know why a guy who has managed to turn a 501(c)(3) into a profitable enterprise for himself would want to be associated with a corporate executive who failed so spectacularly as did Fiorina.
