GOP Cheers Huge Capitol Rally For Rev. Franklin Graham, Hater

UPDATE: A slew of Colorado GOP legislators join hands at Franklin Graham’s rally today:

Laura Waters Woods, a dude in sunglasses, Rep. Justin Everett, and Sen. Vicki Marble. We’re pretty sure Sen. Tim Neville and Rep. Jim Wilson are tucked in behind there too.

Standing proud for America–just not gay America, Muslim America, or grazing fee-paying America.

Many thousands of religious conservatives turned out today at the Colorado Capitol for a rally featuring Rev. Franklin Graham, son of legendary Christian evangelist Billy Graham, who is touring across the nation as part of his “Decision America Tour 2016.”

Franklin Graham is traveling to all 50 states in 2016 to hold prayer rallies, to preach the Gospel, and to challenge believers to take a stand and take action. He’ll be urging Christians to vote, to live out their faith in every part of their lives, and to pray for our nation just as Nehemiah cried out to God to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem and restore hope to His people.

Franklin Graham has emerged in recent years as one of the most powerful figures on the religious right wing of American politics–much more so than his father, who was more concerned with winning souls than votes. Not so with Franklin Graham, who has eagerly joined in the contemporary “culture wars,” bitterly denouncing the movement for LGBT rights as the direct product of Satan:

This is a full-scale assault against Christianity and the followers of Christ. When prayer is banned from the public square, when our President fails to defend biblically defined marriage, and he openly and zealously advocates for gay rights; when legislators rush to overrule existing laws to promote gay marriage; when schools and courts consistently suppress religious freedoms; we know we are locked in a war against the Christian faith, not culture. The architect behind this offensive is none other than Satan himself.

Graham also seconds Donald Trump’s call to halt all immigration into the United States by adherents of the Muslim faith:

For some time I have been saying that Muslim immigration into the United States should be stopped until we can properly vet them or until the war with Islam is over. Donald J. Trump has been criticized by some for saying something similar. The new Speaker of the House Paul Ryan said yesterday that he disagrees—saying that “such views are not what this party stands for and more importantly it’s not what this country stands for.” Politicians in Washington seem to be totally disconnected with reality.

Most recently, Franklin Graham made headlines as one of the principal intercessors on behalf of the militia members who occupied the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in Oregon. Militia members sought out Graham to negotiate on their behalf. All told, Franklin Graham has staked out his ground about as far right as 2016’s politics will allow–and as you know from the headlines today, that’s pretty damn far to the right.

With all of this in mind, you might think that Colorado Republicans, especially vulnerable legislators like Sen. Laura Woods (photo above), Rep. Clarice Navarro, and Rep. Kit Roupe would steer clear?

All we can say is, don’t check their Facebook pages.

  1. Very powerful pictures of inhuman atrocity …

… I can't hardly bear to look anymore at that horrendous government persecution of all those poor pitiful christians.

    1. Perhaps their Bible is missing the Gospel of Matthew?

Matthew 6:5-6: "And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men….when thou prayest, enter into thy closet and when thou has shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret…."

      1. Michael: deep down, scions of the religious right like Franklin Graham and Falwell Jr. care nothing about biblical values. They're in it strictly for the power to have control over other peoples' lives.

  2. I'm so happy to see my state representative front and center nussled between Laura Waters Woods and that bat shit loony Vicky Marble. He's the one with the button-popping jacket and the shiny hair.

    1. The Democrats are not hostile to people of faith. What President Obama and the courts have done is outlaw discrimination against LGBT people. What people like Franklin Graham are angry about is the fact they don't have the support of the government to discriminate against LGBT people any longer. And why shouldn't LGBT people have the right to live a life without fear just like the rest of us. Why shouldn't they be left alone because after all Christ said there are two great commandments. The first is to love the Lord thy God with all thy heart and mind. The second he said, which is as important as the first, is to love thy neighbor as thyself. In short, treat other people the way you would like to be treated. Those commandments trump (no pun intended) any other passage in the Bible about homosexuality.

At bottom, your position, if adopted, would allow all the types of discrimination that it has taken us over two hundred years to get rid of. It is despicable that some Christians attempt to justify their secular discriminatory attitudes as matters of faith. If that was the law of the land the "Jim Crow" laws would still be on the books and enforced. People like Franklin Graham should focus on introspection to rid themselves of their attitudes. Their attitudes don't have any basis in Christian faith.

    2. No D I know is hostile to people of faith.

But we all love the Constitution – and the resultant seperation of church and state.

so legislators of faith make it fair game.

or shall it be illegal to work on the Sabbath?

if they wear gloves, can the Broncos still play football?

    3. "We already know Democrats are hostile……"  Hey Moderatus. I'm a life long traditional conservative Republican. I'm hostile to people of faith ONLY when they try to cram their views down the throats of citizens who don't necessarily agree with all those values. I'm a non-theist and a conservative. How's that grab you?

      1. I don't really feel your Christianity is the right Christianity, so when I take over the country, I'm going to ban your type of Christianity.  Get the point?  That's exactly what the pilgrims ran away from in England.  Religious persecution by other Christians.  If you don't get that, well, you already look stupid.  I forgot I'm not supposed to respond to you at all.

      2. Moderatus the Dominionist, in addition to his/her numerous other extreme positions.

Dominionists celebrate Christian nationalism, in that they believe that the United States once was, and should once again be, a Christian nation.

        1. This is one thing that does scare me. If the Christian fundamentalists and the Muslim fundamentalists ever realized just how much they had in common and joined forces, the rest of us would be in deep shit.

      3. The constitution created the United States as a nation with no state religion. I thought you people were so in love with the constitution.Try reading it.

That means that while a majority of the population might be nominally Christian that's a private, not a state matter. The United States of America is a secular entity, the government of which is banned from interfering in matters of personal belief. It must neither endorse, ban, nor show special favor to any system of belief. To be Christian is no more "American" than to be Hindu, Muslim, Jewish or atheist. FU. And I'm not referring to Frank Underwood. Just plain old FU. If you want to live in a Christian nation you’re the one who will have to leave. Pretty sure England still has an official church.

      4. "I suggest you move out of our Christian nation."  Really??  Show me where in the US Constitution it says the US is a Christian nation. If the US really was a Christian nation, Article VI of the Constitution would not read the way it does. You really need to stop believing in the baloney and lies being peddled by Christian nation advocates like David Barton.

  3. Have no intention of it.  I am a Christian.  If other's don't think so, well then that's just another plot of the devil to turn Christian against Christian.
