IN CASE YOU ARE STANDING NEAR A WATER COOLER…

► A jury reached a verdict today in a civil case targeting the owners of the Cinemark movie theater in Aurora in regards to the Aurora Theater Shootings in 2012. As John Ingold reports for the Denver Post:

The owner of the Aurora movie theater where 12 people were murdered and 70 wounded in one of the nation’s worst mass shootings has been found not to blame for the attack.

The jury in a civil trial reached its unanimous verdict Thursday after less than a day of deliberation. It took about one minute for the verdict to be read.

After the shooting, approximately 60 survivors of the attack and families of those killed filed suits against Cinemark alleging that the theater’s security procedures were too lax and helped enable the shooting. Among other things, the victims argued that Cinemark  should have had armed guards at the theater the night of the shooting, when 1,000 people were expected to attend the midnight premiere of the Batman film, “The Dark Knight Rises.”

The jury of five men and one woman concluded Cinemark could not have foreseen such a crime occurring at the Century Aurora 16 theater.

 

► Colorado Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Yuma) has publicly endorsed Arizona Sen. John McCain‘s re-election bid. If recent history holds, Gardner’s endorsement could be the kiss of the death for McCain. Gardner endorsed Marco Rubio for the Republican Presidential nomination in 2016, and after Rubio dropped out, he switched his support to Ted Cruz.

 

► Gardner is also pushing federal legislation to make the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) pay for the Gold King Mine spill last August. From the Durango Herald:

 

► Republican Senate candidate Jon Keyser is still blaming “the liberal media” for having the audacity to do their jobs as reporters. The Colorado Democratic Party sent out a press release listing all of the different people and groups that Keyser has blamed for his fraudulent petitions:

► Colorado Families for a Fair Wage kicked off their 2016 ballot measure campaign to increase the minimum wage in our state to $12 per hour by the year 2020.

 

► The Colorado Secretary of State’s office issued a press release today to discuss the numerous ballot measures that could appear on the November ballot. Amendment 69, the “State Health Care System” proposal, is the only ballot measure that has already been approved for the General Election ballots. Here’s a list from the SOS of all the ballot measures for which signatures are being gathered.

 

► There was chaos in Congress this morning, as Politico explains:

The House erupted in chaos Thursday morning with Democrats crying foul after Republicans hastily convinced a few of their own to switch their votes and narrowly block an amendment intended to protect lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people from discrimination.

It was an unruly scene on the floor, with Democrats chanting “shame!” after GOP leaders just barely muscled up the votes to reject, 212-213, an amendment by Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (D-N.Y.) that would have effectively barred federal contractors from getting government work if they discriminate against the LGBT community.

Colorado Rep. Mike Coffman (R-Aurora) was among the Republican lawmakers leading the effort to kill the proposed amendment and pave the way for more discrimination in the workplace.

  1. An electric car is only cheaper if you never ever travel more than a full charge worth of miles in one day.  If you have multiple cars it can make a great around town travel to work and buy groceries with car.  But, if you have one car, it isn't appropriate for many people.
