► The ongoing petition fraud story surrounding Republican Senate candidate Jon Keyser is now in its third week, and there is no indication that this scandal is going away anytime soon. ICYMI, here are some of the headlines about the GOP disaster of a Senate race from the last couple of days:

♦ Denver7’s Marshall Zelinger wonders why the City of Denver can verify petition signatures while the Secretary of State’s office apparently cannot.

♦ The Colorado Independent tries to piece together the entire mess that is the Republican field of candidates for U.S. Senate.

► Republican Senate candidate Jack Graham continues to speak out about a performance review from his tenure as Athletic Director at Colorado State University. Graham is insistent that the “performance review,” which does not reflect well on his time at CSU, is some sort of big conspiracy to taint his work, or something.

 

► Congressman Scott Tipton (R-Cortez) is starting to get pretty nervous about his re-election chances now that former state Sen. Gail Schwartz is waiting for him in a General Election matchup.

► Politico reports on another big waffle from Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump:

Donald Trump says he is “not a big believer in global warming.” He has called it “a total hoax,” “bullshit” and “pseudoscience.”

But he is also trying to build a sea wall designed to protect one of his golf courses from “global warming and its effects.”

The New York billionaire is applying for permission to erect a coastal protection works to prevent erosion at his seaside golf resort, Trump International Golf Links & Hotel Ireland, in County Clare.

A permit application for the wall, filed by Trump International Golf Links Ireland and reviewed by POLITICO, explicitly cites global warming and its consequences — increased erosion due to rising sea levels and extreme weather this century — as a chief justification for building the structure.

Donald Trump will protect America from all enemies, be they foreign, domestic, or made-up.

  2. Seawall??? LOL, stupid libs — that's his brilliant plan to keep all those cantaloupe-calved British drug smugglers and rapists from crossing the river into Scotland!  Drumpf's a yuuuge genius, he's playing three-dimensional peek-a-boo … deal with it!

    1. Walls are like fences, but better. Good fences make good neighbors, so a good seawall should go over great with his Scottish besties that have given him the finger at least once already. In fact, it's possible he wants to build it large enough to hide the wind farm that they'll be developing…

    Officials: Federal prosecutors investigating Virginia Gov. McAuliffe

    Federal prosecutors are investigating campaign contributions to Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D), and what they consider to be suspicious personal finances, as part of a public integrity probe that has lasted for more than a year, according to two officials familiar with the inquiry.

    Justice Department officials would not confirm or deny the investigation. Many details, including what prompted it, remain unclear, and one official said there is skepticism among prosecutors about whether it will lead to charges.

    That official said investigators have been scrutinizing McAuliffe’s finances — including personal bank records, tax returns and public disclosure forms that date back many years — and are interested in foreign sources of income.

    1. For me, he's always been the embodiment of the Clinton era sleaze factor that never quite blew over despite nothing sticking so I'm not surprised. I suspect this won't stick either.

  4. AFL-CIO issues rebuke to Colorado Sen. Michael Bennet

    WASHINGTON — The Colorado AFL-CIO dealt a surprising rebuke to U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet over the weekend when the union federation declined to endorse the Democratic incumbent in his bid for re-election.

    Bennet was the only Democratic lawmaker in Colorado’s congressional delegation who failed to gain the support of the state’s AFL-CIO chapter. The group on Saturday endorsed Democratic U.S. Reps. Diana DeGette, Ed Perlmutter and Jared Polis at its meeting in Stapleton, as well as Democratic congressional candidates Gail Schwartz, Bob Seay and Morgan Carroll.

    Sam Gilchrist, executive director of the Colorado AFL-CIO, said the vote on Bennet was close, but that he fell short of the required two-thirds majority needed for an endorsement because too many union members were unhappy with Bennet’s support of a measure last year that gives the White House more power to cut international trade deals.
