If you were in Canada, you’d probably have the day off — Happy Victoria Day! It’s time to Get More Smarter with Colorado Pols! If you think we missed something important, please include the link in the comments below (here’s a good example).
► The ongoing petition fraud story surrounding Republican Senate candidate Jon Keyser is now in its third week, and there is no indication that this scandal is going away anytime soon. ICYMI, here are some of the headlines about the GOP disaster of a Senate race from the last couple of days:
♦ Denver7’s Marshall Zelinger wonders why the City of Denver can verify petition signatures while the Secretary of State’s office apparently cannot.
♦ The Colorado Independent tries to piece together the entire mess that is the Republican field of candidates for U.S. Senate.
♦ Kevin Krug of Denver7 examines Ryan Frazier’s bid to remain on the June 28th Primary ballot.
♦ Republican Senate candidate Robert Blaha talks to 9News about his “brash style” in general and his complaints about the petition gathering process.
► It is definitely not a good time to be Jon Keyser, but the month of May has also been particularly rough for Secretary of State Wayne Williams.
Get even more smarter after the jump…
► Republican Senate candidate Jack Graham continues to speak out about a performance review from his tenure as Athletic Director at Colorado State University. Graham is insistent that the “performance review,” which does not reflect well on his time at CSU, is some sort of big conspiracy to taint his work, or something.
► Congressman Scott Tipton (R-Cortez) is starting to get pretty nervous about his re-election chances now that former state Sen. Gail Schwartz is waiting for him in a General Election matchup.
► Congressman Mike Coffman (R-Aurora) demonstrates his uncanny ability to take just about every side of a particular issue. Coffman also continues to go back and forth on questions about his support for presumptive Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump (he is already on the record in support of Trump).
► Arizona Sen. John McCain faces a tough re-election challenge in 2016, and he may have received the kiss of death last week when Colorado Sen. Cory Gardner offered his official endorsement.
► You’ve read about the recall underway in Castle Rock, but did you know that there is a separate recall effort in Thornton?
► Congresswoman Diana DeGette (D-Denver) is facing her first Primary challenge since 2002.
► Megan Schrader of the Colorado Springs Gazette ponders the likelihood of a special legislative session sometime this summer.
► Politico reports on another big waffle from Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump:
Donald Trump says he is “not a big believer in global warming.” He has called it “a total hoax,” “bullshit” and “pseudoscience.”
But he is also trying to build a sea wall designed to protect one of his golf courses from “global warming and its effects.”
The New York billionaire is applying for permission to erect a coastal protection works to prevent erosion at his seaside golf resort, Trump International Golf Links & Hotel Ireland, in County Clare.
A permit application for the wall, filed by Trump International Golf Links Ireland and reviewed by POLITICO, explicitly cites global warming and its consequences — increased erosion due to rising sea levels and extreme weather this century — as a chief justification for building the structure.
Donald Trump will protect America from all enemies, be they foreign, domestic, or made-up.
► The Denver Post has a new website, which should come in handy if the newspaper ever stops newsroom layoffs.
► A Baltimore police officer was acquitted on all charges related to the death of Freddie Gray.
► What happened to Colorado’s Education Commissioner? Marianne Goodland tries to find out the details for the Colorado Independent.

What do you mean? May has been a tremendous month for Wayne Williams!!! (His only problem is that he's got an wholly incompetent PR flak, only a half-step removed from Moderatus, who can't spin bupkis …
… where’d he find that one anyway? Some worthless fish wrap toss off??)
Seawall??? LOL, stupid libs — that's his brilliant plan to keep all those cantaloupe-calved British drug smugglers and rapists from crossing the river into Scotland! Drumpf's a yuuuge genius, he's playing three-dimensional peek-a-boo … deal with it!
Walls are like fences, but better. Good fences make good neighbors, so a good seawall should go over great with his Scottish besties that have given him the finger at least once already. In fact, it's possible he wants to build it large enough to hide the wind farm that they'll be developing…
Oh – and props for "three-dimensional peek-a-boo"!
Is it something in the water?
Officials: Federal prosecutors investigating Virginia Gov. McAuliffe
For me, he's always been the embodiment of the Clinton era sleaze factor that never quite blew over despite nothing sticking so I'm not surprised. I suspect this won't stick either.
AFL-CIO issues rebuke to Colorado Sen. Michael Bennet
So a majority supported him. Just not two thirds. Not quite as dramatic as the headline.
