Trump: Springs Fire Marshals "Don't Know What The Hell They're Doing"

  • by: Colorado Pols

SATURDAY UPDATE: Via 11News in Colorado Springs, the fire marshal responds more nicely than we would:

11 News spoke to Brett Lacey, who said the problem was with the event. He said organizers handed out too many tickets and there wasn’t enough space in the auditorium for that many people… [Pols emphasis]

Lacey said crews evaluated the room on Thursday and decided about 1,500 people could safely fit in the room. Another thousand could be in the overflow room.

On Friday afternoon, Lacey decided another hundred could be let into both rooms. But, he told 11 News’ Katie Pelton it comes down to what’s safe. [Pols emphasis]

“There’s an old adage that when a fire marshal walks into a room, milk curdles. So because we’re always looking out for public safety and trying to make certain venues go off successfully and safely sometimes there are people that aren’t very happy with some of the rules and regulations we’re required to enforce. But it doesn’t bother me at all,” he said.

We mentioned earlier the likelihood of Trump’s campaign advance team booking a much smaller-capacity venue than appropriate for the number of tickets made available for the event. This could be either simple incompetence on the campaign’s part, or a deliberate act to create the illusion of massive crowds being turned away from an event.

Either way, going off on the fire marshal in his trademark bilious way makes Donald Trump look like, well…a blathering asshole who blames everyone else for his own mistakes. We recognize that he needs little additional evidence in this regard to convince anyone undecided, and his supporters generally love it.

Thanks to the Colorado Springs Fire Department for keeping folks safe against Trump’s will.

Original post follows.

—–

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is in Colorado at this hour, and his first public event on the campus of the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs is now underway–but not before Trump kicked off his speech with some trademark nastiness for Colorado Springs fire marshals who limited attendance:

“They don’t know what they’re doing.” “That’s why we’re going to hell.” And here we thought Hillary Clinton was the problem?

Now, it should be noted that the Gallogly Events Center at UCCS only has a capacity of about 1,500 people, which is pretty small for a Trump political rally. It’s a common practice in politics to book a smaller venue than you expect can handle your crowd size, so as to make the story about your “overflowing crowds.” But in this case, Trump would rather badmouth the fire marshals–even going as far as wondering aloud if they’re “Hillary people”–than bask in the glory of his throngs of supporters.

That’s just how Trump rolls, we guess.

  1. Oh yeah….El Paso County is packed with Clinton supporters. It's our big secret. Maybe he should have held his event in Boulder.  surprise

  2. To be fair he probably didn't bother to learn enough about Colorado to know that Colorado Springs is where the richest vein of super conservative Rs who would vote for a resurrected Hitler before they'd vote for HRC is located. If he's completely written off Colorado to the extent of insulting fire marshals in C Springs, every one of them most likely a conservative Republican, I don't know why he bothered to show at all.

I wonder how many Rs are going to vote for minor party candidates or write in a favorite sons this year? I'm betting it will be more than HRC is going to lose that way.

    1. 1. There are multiple sources describing military bases / deployments in Saudi Arabia. For example, NY Times has had a story about a drone base in Saudi Arabia, part of its coverage of the confirmation of John Brennan.

      2. Descriptions of the process of getting intelligence briefings for candidates from those in the Romney campaign who got them in 2012 are that they are NOT daily briefings. In contrast to that, every story I found on this has an assumption that Trump and Clinton "may have begun" getting daily briefings,

With so many avenues for Trump criticism, this one doesn't look very promising.

  3. Trump did leak classified information today. Not fit for the presidency. Colorado Pols, your story is right on – Trump's campaign chose a small venue to avoid another embarrassment like the Western Conservative Conference where the candidate spoke to a half empty ballroom. And Trump, don't come to Colorado Springs and insult our Fire Marshal. Instead get educated on issues, including fire codes – start with NYC where you live, check out the Triangle Fire that killed hundreds of children and women in a shirt factory. That's a start for your elementary education on fire codes and then keep studying more cases. Don't dare call the capacity limit a federal government overreach. Talk to firefighters – if they'll even speak or listen to you after what your obnoxious behavior in Colorado Springs. Next step, Trump won't pay UCCS rent for the gymnasium because of fire code.

  4. "I support first responders unless I don't like what they're doing then they're poopy-doody-headed no-nothing Clinton-supporters." – Trump (paraphrased)

  5. Turns out the cow's rectum had to be rescued from a stuck elevator by the fire department so he could do that hate speech.  A real piece of work there.

  6. Saw this morning that Trump was complaining about a fire marshal who allowed a 10% overage exception for both the main room and the overflow room (no doubt based on the assessment that Secret Service-level protection decreased risks). Even with the expansion, total capacity would be under 3,000.

Also saw a claim that says the Trump campaign handed out 10,000 tickets.

The "I know, let's put on a show" amateur hour campaign staff has yet to get their act together.
