How To Not Inspire Confidence In Your Field Campaign

In one of the most important elections of our lifetime, in one of the most important counties in the state, the Donald Trump campaign is relying heavily on a 12 year old to help open a field office.

Weston Imer is co-chair of the campaign in Jefferson County.

If you stopped by the field office at the corner of 27th and Youngfield in Wheat Ridge Friday, you would have seen young Weston instructing volunteers on what to do, as well as making phone calls to supporters…

Now first of all, we think it’s totally cool that a 12-year-old kid is interested enough in politics to put in long hours volunteering to help open a campaign office. When we say we wish there were more kids interested in politics and willing to actually get involved in a meaningful way, we mean it–and Weston Imer is living the dream.

But with that said, no, we obviously don’t think having a 12-year-old kid as the co-chair of Donald Trump’s campaign in the pivotal swing suburban battleground of Jefferson County, Colorado is a good idea. The Trump campaign’s reputation for the hiring of campaign operatives most charitably described as “second string,” meaning losers and total unknowns, is not helped by putting a 12-year-old “in charge” of deploying volunteers and making phone calls. It almost seems like the Trump campaign is deliberately pushing Weston Imer’s story of “running the Jeffco office” as a positive for them.

With all due respect to a great kid with a bright future, this isn’t a good story for Trump.

    On the increasing speculation that Trump's plan is no longer to win the presidency (if it ever was) but to establish a new and very vanilla flavored media juggernaut…

    The last few days have brought fresh reporting and evidence that suggest this is where Trump is really headed, a scenario that a number ofobservers (your humble blogger included) have been speculating about for months. I thought it would be useful to round up this evidence:

    * Vanity Fair media writer Sarah Ellison reports in a radio interview that Trump has had private discussions with his inner circle about “how to monetize” the new audience he’s built up. As Ellison puts it, this potential goal should no longer be seen as “speculation.”

    1. Regrets when they grow up? Weston Imer will probably be successful in politics, sales, or theater. Barron Trump, on the other hand, will be living off grid on an organic farming commune, cooperating with the 2025 equivalent of Anonymous, and dipping into his trust funds only as needed. If ever a child was set up to rebel against Poppa, he's the one.

  5. The kid fits right in with other Trump supporters because they too have the maturity level of a 12 year old.

    The Colorado delegation to the Republican national convention has long been one of the most vocal redoubts of opposition to Donald Trump in the Republican party. But emails shared with the Guardian reveal how divisive the conflict over Trump has become, with supporters of the GOP nominee comparing Never Trumpers to opponents of Jesus Christ and using a 12-year-old to make threatening phone calls to coax anti-Trump delegates into supporting him.
