Buck Called Trump a "Fraud" But Now Says He'll Vote for Him

Rep. Ken Buck.
Rep. Ken Buck.

After once calling Donald Trump a “fraud,” and then remaining silent on the GOP presidential nominee for months, U.S. Rep. Ken Buck has now thrown his endorsment to the celebrity mogul.

“What we have to do as Republicans, in my view, is we got to get Donald Trump elected, and then we got to hold him accountable,” Buck told Randy Corporon and Steve Kelly on KNUS yesterday afternoon. “We got to surround him with good, sensible people who will give him the best advice on how to move this country forward.”

Earlier this year, however, Buck slammed Trump, after Trump proposed a temporary ban on allowing Muslims to visit the United States. Buck told CBS 4:

“Trump’s proposal violates the Constitution, the values of our nation, the Republican Party platform, and my conscience. He should withdraw from the Presidential race. He is a fraud,” said Buck.

Yesterday, Buck sang a different tune, pointing out that “we have a system of checks and balances in this country which allows Congress and the Supreme Court to rein in the power of the president,” and that’s what Congress may have to do with “either president.”

If Trump doesn’t behave, “there are remedies,” said Buck, calling Buck a “strong person” who has “never been tested in office.”

“We have an unknown entity that we are going to be taking a risk on,” Buck said, adding that Hillary is “known entity” that he wants to reject. “I don’t think anybody can argue that Donald Trump isn’t an unknown quantity, to a cerntain extent.”

“There is one thing I know for sure,” Buck said on KNUS, in what appears to be Buck’s first public endorsement of Trump.  “If I call the White House, and President Clinton is in the oval office, no one is going to take my call. If I call the White House with a President Trump, I have a chance of influencing policy in the executive branch.”

  1. “Trump’s proposal violates the Constitution, the values of our nation, the Republican Party platform, and my conscience. He should withdraw from the Presidential race. He is a fraud,” said Buck.

But he doesn't wear high heels so…. good to go.

          1. And let's not forget former Sheriff Pat Sullivan.

I can see a joke here:  Tom Hanna, Terry Maketa and Pat Sullivan walk into a bar together……

  2. So it appears the GOP consensus is that Trump may be a crazy sonofabitch, but he's their crazy sonofabitch.  Thus deserving of their support.

    Right Moddy?

      1. Actually, his head exploded when Donny Downer went all wimpy yesterday and said illegal immigrants might be able to stay in the country (i.e., Obama's plan).

        Yowzer!

  3. I went to Buck's website a week or two ago to contact my esteemed Congresscritter, and asked if he supported Trump.  Surprise, have never received any kind of response.  And, yes, I am (unfortunately) in his district.

Buck is a zero, sure wish the Dems would have taken this election cycle more seriously and tried to compete for Buck's seat.  Buck makes Marilyn Musgrave look sane.

        1. I think it indeed is a self-fulfilling prophecy, Bob.   But it would take a cataract of cash or the proverbial live boy/dead girl to move the current gerrymandered forth.   As a Phillips County native I can remember when the district was more competitive.   But now, people hoping for responsible representation are pretty much [B]ucked.

  4. “We got to surround him with good, sensible people who will give him the best advice on how to move this country forward.”

Trump gets to pick. And thus far, we've had  Lewandowsky, Manafort, and Bannon / Conway as managers. Conway may be sensible – the others, not so much.  Trump had Roger Stone, complete with his racism and sexism. Mr. Ailes is a long-time friend, defended by Trump as he is fired for alleged sexual harassment. There's Rudy Guiliani, thoughtfully considering Clinton's health. Ms. Palin. Chris Christie. Dr. Ben. Carson. Steve Mnuchin with his compassion for those with distressed home loans. Carter Page and his ties to Russia. Katrina Pierson, with her ammo necklace. Carl Palladino, with a host of objectionable traits. Joseph Schmitz, the Inspector General who maintained ties with Boeing. Walid Phares, a foreign affairs advisor with links to radical Lebanese militias.

    Yep, surrounded by the best.

    1. Conway is more like a skilled liar, than "sensible".  I loved her answer about why she demanded that Donny Downer release his tax returns when she was working for another candidate, but now says he shouldn't release his tax returns.  Her explanation was that she only just learned that he was under an IRS audit (which doesn't matter, anyway.)

      Liar!
