NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado Executive Director Karen Middleton today gave the following statement in response to anti-choice extremist Governor Mike Pence’s event in Durango and Rep. J Paul Brown’s support for the Trump-Pence ticket.
“Donald Trump has said women should be punished for having abortions. As Governor, Mike Pence put those words into practice with some of the most abusive anti-choice laws in the country, including mandatory ultrasounds, waiting periods and requiring funerals for fetuses after an abortion. Mike Pence is also horrifically, unacceptably anti-gay and signed a law in Indiana allowing anti-LGBT discrimination.
Pence’s actions couldn’t be further from the pro-choice, pro-reproductive justice, pro-equality values of Coloradans. J Paul Brown, who has his own terrible anti-choice voting record, is out of step with Colorado voters. His backing of the Trump-Pence ticket is an insult to the women of Southwest Colorado and anyone who believes in the right to individual liberty and the right to keep government out of our personal decisions.
Barbara McLachlan shares the mainstream pro-choice values of Durango voters and should represent them at the General Assembly. She earned NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado’s endorsement. We will do everything we can to support her candidacy.”
