(It wouldn’t be Christmas without a “War on Christmas”- Promoted by Colorado Pols)
Why did State Sen. Laura Woods (R-Arvada) share a recent Facebook post asking, “Remember when Americans could say ‘Merry Christmas’ without getting viciously attacked?”
What reality is she in?
If you listen to KNUS 710-AM or follow Woods on Facebook then, yes, you might actually think meanie liberals are out there waiting to viciously attack you if you drop the Merry-Christmas bomb. It’s manufactured.
It’s sad that Woods, who lost her seat in last month’s election, apparently believes it. And I’d like the opportunity to discuss her Facebook post, first revealed by Charles Buchanan on the Colorado Times Recorder, but she doesn’t return my calls.
Woods might say that disputes about the phrase “Merry Christmas” occur in the real world, outside of the conservative media bubble. And they do, especially about its use in public places. And they can be a bit vicious, no question, at times. But this is rare.
It’s conservatives, firing up the air in their bubble, who perpetuate the myth of viciousness, as Woods did this week on her Facebook feed.

I remember when you could wish Happy Holidays without being criticized
You commie bastard!
Why do you hate the the little baby Jesus?!?
I was behind some blue-eyed shiksa at Costco, and the clerk offered her an effusive "Merry Christmas!" twice. I was considering my response ("And a Happy Hannukah to you!?") should she go there with me. I guess my outsized semitic beak made her think better of it, and all I got was a "have a nice day." Curses, foiled again!
I miss Bluecat. She'd have some incisive comments on this.
I plan to bring a menorah and my UU /pagan chalice in to set around my pagan classroom Christmas tree, just to introduce some cognitive dissonance. My students already think I'm weird, so that's just biz as usual.
If I can find a Muslim symbol, I'll use that, too. After all, we may all need to register as Muslims just to muck up the plans for the registry.
I have a friend that told me BlueCat is not coming back.
Ask your friend if she is ok.
One of my bosses from years past in my social services career got tired of hearing the phrase: "have a nice day." When the situation warranted it, he would say: "thanks, but I have other plans."
Re Bluecat, she probably got worn out during the election trying to keep a lid on Zappy's excesses.
Regarding your “pagan” display, bear in mind that the whole Christmas gig started as the pagan solstice celebration. But you probably already know this. Don’t forget to include the “Flying Spaghetti Monster” in your pantheon of holiday deities.
You gotta get in that dig at Zappy just like he's got to get in his dig at Bennet. Bluecat, I think, is fine, just taking an extended break from political chatter.
Here's your Basketti Monster deity:
R'amen
I would love to hear that BlueCat is ok. My pessimistic side fears a stroke or something. If you read this, dear one, just tell me to stick my worries where the sun don't shine and I'll know you're ok.
Check your facebook, Vger.
I don't have a Facebook page, mj. Technically, I did open one years ago but have never been back to check it and am not sure how I could.
